1973 Rear Bumper replacement
So I asked over in the body shop about the fitment and quality of a replacement bumper from PY and never got a response, so I'll ask here....
Anyone have experience with their replacement bumpers or is there another supplier for a quality replacement? |

Not sure if the Ames piece is the same as the PY piece but it looked fine.

It a good driver bumper nothing more. Do a search as I bought one and reviewed it here. I then sold it, so that tells you something.

When I was in the market for one, my research tended to indicate that if you weren't real picky and/or the car was not a higher end resto, then the aftermarket bumper would probably be fine. If you are picky and/or have a higher value car you might be better served finding an original and getting it re-chromed. I found an original that had been re-chromed and was part of a stalled project being liquidated.

Thank you for the responses. I was hoping that the repops were better than just ok. Not what I was really wanting to hear.

who manufactures the Ames or Firebird Central rear bumper, since they make no mention of "goodmark"?
http://www.firebirdcentral.com/1970_...p/bum-2009.htm https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/De...A&web_access=Y Most of the rear bumpers on Ebay are listed as Goodmark. http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-73-Firebi...57d9b2&vxp=mtr So my question is, is their more then one manufacturer of 70-73 rear bumpers, and which is the best, or at least the least worst? ? |

I just bought a rechromed original at the swap meet last weekend. I bought repops for the '70 Z/28 I had and wasn't happy with them.

I just received one from Ames late last year. The quality was very good.

The bumper that Ames is selling is a Goodmark product and is not the same as the FC bumper that I reviewed. This info comes from Ames

I did the test fitting on the Goodmark bumper, the fit and finish was very nice.
The pictures are from the test fit, the car is a '73. |

BUMP
if that bumper looks as nice in the photo as real life I would use it..the bumper on my car is a GM replacement( still has a part # sticker) from around 1984 and is decent and I feel shows well..but if perfection is what someone wants (show quality) I would think a factory rechromed for big $ would fill the order../I do not think that even when brand new the factory bumpers were show stoppers

The Goodmark bumper is really nice, I added the picture of the corner to show the detail.
Here is the original bumper from the test car, it was wrinkled with folded over metal in the same area |

I had my original rechromed over 10yrs ago when I 1st got my project.
It only cost 225$ to have done and looks about s good as they were when new. Now, if i could get the car done!
