Default Oil Pressure Reading

Will the oil pressure read higher with the placement @ the distributor or down @ the oil filter ?

thanks

at the oil filter - the preferred method is by distributor

In the block by the distributor is more accurate but sometimes it's a bear to get the plug out of the block by the distributor and if that is the case then I run the line from the oil filter adapter.

I always mod the block for the distributor location if the engine is out of the car for some reason. If not then then the oil filter adaptor location at least tells you that you have oil pressure. If you are running a light, not worth the effort to move it. With a gage then the distributor location will give you a better actual reading but might have more needle movement on the gage. NO PLASTIC LINE FROM THE LOCATION TO THE GAGE PLEASE!

I was having oil pressure problems last summer and went to a lot of work to move the oil line from a tee on the filter adapter to the oil plug at the base of the dist. Did not cure any problems in oil pressure but pressure did register lower at the dist.

Have since removed the engine and changed a few things internally & reinstalled the motor, still picking up my oil pressure at the base of the dist. Also before starting the motor I installed a spare gauge on the oil filter adapter.
In my car, at least, the pressure at the adapter is about 5# higher than @ the base of the dist.

The pressure reading at the filter housing is before the filter. The distributor oil hole is after the filter, or what the engine see's. Having two gauges, one tied into each of these locations, would tell you if the filter is getting plugged up, or having issues flowing oil, i.e. filter media too restrictive. Then with a light tied in somewhere, you have the best of three worlds!

Yes,I agree,I have a mechanical hooked up to the distributor hole and the idiot light still hooked up to the filter.
