Default Any 71 GTO convertibles with PW

Look to see how many out there with power windows and looking for some pictures of interior so I can locate where switches go. My driverside master control switch seems to push out the door panel but I think it was always like that originally. Thanks

The power window switch locations would be the same as all hardtop 71 A-Bodies. You can get an idea on this 71 Lemans Sport --> http://www.volocars.com/show_largeim...d=1329&picn=11

Thanks Norm nice example that shows that my master switch is definitely off some. I was hoping somebody could give some measurements. Also was just wondering how rare it was for a GTO convertible to have power windows plus A/C like mine. (Plus a 455HO car)

there is a topic on here with a partial list of 71 455 HO converts (w/o Judge option). Boss listed his quezal gold M22 car, I noted two cardinal red 71's, one auto, one M22, both the latter are factory AC cars. My bet is more 71 455 HO converts had factory AC, than not.

Boss alot of options but no ram air. 'ol Pinion head you wouldn't have a link to that list. I just thought it would be unusual to order a/c with a convertible. Do you think PW was a popular option on a convertible I don't see anybody posting pictures.

Johnny, as they show up, know several of us have tried over the years to write down pertinent info. Factory a/c is actually quite common on the '71 GTO and LeMans Sport converts. The 35mm pics I have of a 71 red/ black/black HO M22 convert are from late May of '91 out in CA @ POCI Western Regionals. Somewhere have a few older pics of the red/ivory/white top 455 HO turbo 400 car, it is still locally owned. PY member ROAR from Norway posted a few pics a few years ago of his 71 HO auto convert, non AC, canyon copper/black/black.

Numbers wise, there has to be more '71 automatic 455 HO converts out there... if one takes the total number of 27 '71 455 HO converts built, subtract the 13 or 14, that were documented as Judge converts, that leaves either 13 or 14 '71 455 HO automatic converts built w/o the Judge pkg. then subtract, your canyon copper, Roar's canyon copper, and the Doc's red convert, that leaves another 10 automatic HO converts. Believe I also have partial info on a highly restored Adriatic blue auto convert... will do some digging.

On the power window deal, my memory is not that good in regards to what I've seen, can tell you of the documented cars noted above, the red auto has man windows. When I can find old pics will ck the interior pics of the red M22 convert.

Roger / Johnny,

Here are a few pics of the same '71 from a couple of shows here in Ohio (2007 GTOAA Nats in Columbus and 2009 GTOAA/POCI "Co-Vention" in Dayton). Didn't get a chance to meet the owner of this beauty. Maybe someone from these boards?? I'll usually take a pic of the PHS or build sheet info if it's displayed. Didn't have either for this car.

My 71 HO convertible doesn't have PW or A/C but my 72 does & I have the same issue with my buttons getting pushed out.

I think in an earlier time it would be true, but by 1971, I think the people spending money on convertibles also spent money on options.

I also believe a lot of it has to do with the location of the buyer. For example, I have Mustangs: By the Numbers (I think that's the name?) by Marti Auto Works, and they list Mustang production by district. The biggest market for the Mustang convertible seems to have been the Rust Belt, with particular interest in the Boston/Buffalo areas; yeah, California ranked high, but not as high as you would think. Perhaps it was an issue that good weather is at a deficit in the Northeast and they want to exploit the good weather at every opportunity? Perhaps Californians are so jaded by the sun that they don't have as great a need for convertibles?

And, then, perhaps those cars from the sunnier areas would be more likely to have AC from their well-heeled owners?

I do think AC would be much more common than PW in a convertible such as yours, though. I do have 1972 stats that singled out the convertible and it shows 21.3% of ragtops had PW, while 51.2% had AC. I don't know where this list came from but I am *guessing* Fred Simmonds.

Here's a pic that shows them pushed out - I've never bothered to pull the panel to see what the issue is or if there's a way to prevent it. I have however cleaned the door panel - that was one of the pictures taken of it before I bought it.

If I recall correctly, there should be indentions/perforations that show the line worker where to place the holes on the inside of the door panels. Pull one off and see. I just converted a manual window to automatic last year. I can go take a look.

Yea That's it Boss that's how mine look when I first bought the car but not as bad now since door panels have been replaced I think it gets worse with age. Thanks Pat that location looks different from mine. My location looks closer to the Bosses do have a picture of rear I have one that's kind of in the center of chrome strip and one lower. I had the interior redone and was never really happy with it. Thinking about doing panels again
