Default RED positive battery cable - 1965

The 1964 positive (very short) battery cable was red.

1965
When did they stop making the long RED positive cable on the 1965 GTO.

No one offers this red cable for 1965, but it definitely came on the early 65's.

My 65 (11A BAL) has the OEM red standard cable (2987265UV) and two others I'm aware of below.

65 (12A BF) with Conv. Top.

65 (12E BAL) with Air Condition (2987266UV).

Another interesting observation is the early 65's (no air condition) had a cad plated heater hose bracket fastened to the RH cyl. head.

Most all of the 65's (plus 66-67) are painted black, which is only offered by the restoration catalogs.

I thought '64/'65 used the Spring Ring connections? When did they switch to nut and bolt? When did they ditch the Starter Relay?

Spring Ring battery connections were used at least through 1969. I believe they were used until side terminal batteries took over. I don't think any '65 GTO's had a red positive cable OEM.

GTO's never used an external starter relay. The '64 had the HORN relay on the inner fender driver's side. In '65 and later, the horn relay was on the firewall.

The red + battery cable was used on the 65 GTOs for options such as power windows, power conv top, and or power antenna.

They came with a spring ring and I think 60sstuff is looking for a repro or original since the previous owner of his 65 installed the later style clamp on his original battery cable.

I have the red + cable on my original 65 GTO (60sstuff if referring to my car in his original post as one of the 3 cars). My build sheet shows the "picking code" for my red battery cable application.

My 70 still has the original spring connectors on it and both cables I believe are black

Yes, as I said above the early 65 GTO's came with the Red positive battery cables regardless of what options the car came with.

Both my factory OEM cables had there original "spring ring" ends cut off so I had to solder new ends on them, but they still have the correct cables with "part numbers".

The first two pics show the (12A) BF Conv. I mentioned above with its Red positive cable.
Option 382 just showed you his Red cable.

Third pic shows my neg. cable with part number.

Last pic - yes it is black and white, but you can clearly see the "red cable against the inner fender and can't even see the black neg. cable".

From my understanding the red battery cable has an extra tangent black wire that goes to a 40 amp circuit breaker on the firewall to drive the power windows, power top or power seat (I said power antenna in my previous post).

It sounds like 60sstuff is stating that the early 65s received the red + cable no matter what options were on the car. Maybe the extra tangent black wire was on certain red battery cables with the appropriate picking code during this early time frame since his picking code is different from what I showed on mine.

The Fremont 65 Conv pic has the extra black wire as well as mine. 60sstuff's is the only red battery cable on a 65 I have seen without the extra black wire, of course I have only seen 3 cars with them.

When searching for a suitable repro RED + Spring Ring cable to "Recreate" the correct factory look on my '66 Lemans SPRINT 6.
I only found offerings from/For Buick, Olds & Chevy. The Corvette guys offer a few good choices.

Default One number apart

The tangent on the Red cable (Option 382) is for power assy. #2987266UV.

My 65 (no power assy.) Red cable is #2987265UV.

PS - I called M&H and who ever I spoke with said they do not make a Long Red cable for a GTO.
