Any comments on this trim tag? Do the rivets look correct?

No, they don't look correct. Looks like someone stuck it on there with standard pop rivets.

Makes you really want to check the other two rivets......and they are a bit tougher to see.....

"the question is why" the question is not why but why not, you send your car to a body shop for 2 to 3 months for body work are you going to risk someone stealing the cowl tag while its in there. People take everything they can these days, even when you know the shop you have it at. I would rather risk the ridicule for having the wrong rivits on the tag than to not have the tag at all, besides if someone wanted to fake it the correct rivits are available easily. There are hidden vins on most cars that can be checked out anyway. Anybody that would confirm a car by the cowl tag only is asking for trouble. That is the ansewer to "why"

This tag was probably removed and re attached with revits that don't match the originals. Pretty obvious to Pontiac owners. Which is no crime BTW.

To answer WHY. Owner of car in question provided a possible scenario. Ending a skeptics approach to the what-ifs..

My guess it's the one LB 71 TA on eBay that was clearly stated restored by previous owner.

I always prefer to see cars that I don't own get tanked. It hurts less, and hearing what's wrong might save a future tanking that is more personal...
