I have some catching up to do but it looks like I've lost my pics. I'll wait and see if they get that fixed.

Well I got some pics back, most all thumbnails but lost the last post. I'll risk it and try and catch up some.
I decided the springs needed re-arched. I had never done this before but after reading about doing it (and the closest place around here that does it is an hour away) we gave it a go. It really wasn't that big of a job. Engine cross member finished up and getting a rough idea on the front end. We are going to make another for mounting the radiator and front shackles. Much of the inner sheet metal will be gone and replaced with square framing. While not exactly where it will go this gives us some idea what we have to do to mount the springs. A quick rear mount made up. We will have to weld a bottom piece that will weld to the bottom of the frame and then braced to the side. It's going to be awhile (Friday after next before I can get back to it most likely) so today I just prepped the metal to keep the rust away. As far as the pics, the firewall will be re-done and the wiring all replaced. I've pretty much decided that the heater will go and I'm going to hang pedals. I do want at least defrost so something will get done to get that back at least. |

I hope to get the frame trimmed pretty soon. Still deciding how I want it to look.

Nice work, I had a set of springs I did like that but didn't end up using them. I was worried they would settle too much and get longer and max out the shackle.
Are you making a steering arm for the rh spindle for cross steer? Drag link? A 5/8 bolt fits perfect in the hole from the pitman arm once the ball is taken out. If your using the heim joint drag link from speedway anyway.

I am going to attempt cross steer. You had mentioned before about trying to use the arm off the original suspension. That's going to be my first attempt. From the looks of things it should pretty much be a straight shot.
Yes, flattening back out are a bit of a concern but if so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to install new ones. I got new mounting bolts. I've tried to locate an early truck to see how they were originally but how tight are the springs supposed to fit in the rear brackets? |

They should be a slip fit. On my new springs, they have nylon bushings to take up the extra slack on the ends. But in your case it's probably a steel sleeve in the bushing so as long as the thickness of the bracket will let it compress it tight it should be ok.

A little busier than I had hoped this week. We got the rear spring mounting perches made up. They will but up under the frame along the seam and weld to the side of the frame. The above mounts will weld up underneath. I hope to have it welded in tomorrow.
Started removing the heater boxes. |

Ran into a little problem today. One of my front rims is bent pretty good. I wanted to run skinnier ones anyway but.........still got the brackets tacked in.

We put the engine in to get weight on the springs to make sure of where to place the front bracket. No weight on the springs in this picture though. Rear brackets are tacked in.

Not dead. I had a lot going on over the summer and didn't get to work on it much at all. Finally got it rolling.
We modified the original 56 steering arm. As soon as I get a couple more days off we should have it steering. |

Thanks for dragging this up for me.......I had some family personal things that slowed me down. (all is well).
I should have the frame done next week and ready to put back together. I'll get some pics and update then. As an aside......We almost have the old 316 in my buddies 55 Nomad. |
