Default Just bought a basket case

Just thought I'd let you guys know since I've always been under the impression that nothing is left out there, in terms of "unfound" early f-bodies. Like no stone has been left unturned. Well I was proven wrong today !

A local guy I've known for a few years comes to my place last week-end and he tells me about this 68 Firebird in the woods about 20 miles from where I live. He says he spoke to the owner and the car could be bought for next to nothing.

Sure enough, I go there, find the guy and take a look at the car, and buy it. It's an awfully rough, almost sunk to the ground, but very nicely optioned 1968 Firebird Sprint, 3 speed on the floor, rally gauge, console, power brake power steering car, vinyl top and deluxe interior.

I only need a few mouldings off this car so I'm probably going to part out the rest, but could not resist buying it...I'm a sucker for those early Birds. What amazes me most is the fact that this car had never been talked about locally, still has it's original drivetrain (no chevy V8 conversion here !) gosh even has it's factory optional speaker grilles on the rear shelf !

I have no pics to show you guys, but I'll post some next week-end when I pick it up.

They are out there. A guy bought a real 70 Hemi Cuda here in Peoria. No one ever knew it was there.

Great find! If you part out I need the throttle cable and linkage. May be interested in other sprint parts. Just let me know what you have.
Thanks

Ended up being a 4 speed ! It's a saginaw four speed with the car's vin on the transmission ! Didn't know you could have a 4 speed in a Sprint Firebird !

Nice find. List up what is available, as there are Sprint enthusiasts looking for parts.

Unhappy OUCH

'68 Sprint 4spd Bird, Must have been a sharp looker when new.
I'm sure there are a few bits left to save.

Saw this one down in Henderson NC a few years back.

That makes me a little sad.

Sometimes one must die so that others may live. RIP

Yes, nicely optioned. Sprint package, FOUR speed, console with clock on it, deluxe white interior, white vinyl top, PS PB, rally gauges, hood tach, trunk lamp, rear mounted antenna, space saver spare, 3.55 rear.

Agree. It's sad to see them go.

I parted two red 350 and one green 400 1968 firebirds over the years. They could've been restored but the end value didn't justify the significant investment.

Not much left on that car. I bought my 69 stacked gauges off a car that was parted out about 10 years ago. Sat in the back yard on blocks until the body fell to the ground. Guy said it was a 350 2BBL with a 4-speed... still kicking myself for not buying the console mounted 8 track.
