An old but not real close friend was getting married, I'd only met his fiancé a couple of times but decided to throw a party and invite them the week before the wedding. His fiancé's sister came to the party, and literally never left, somehow we clicked, this strange talking girl from Michigan meets Southern boy, and that was 32 years ago.
The boy girl ratio of that party was about 3 girls for every guy, about 30+ people showed up. 4 weddings came about from that one party.

My Mother and Sister went to France over the summer one year. They decided it would be fun to take a cooking class and found a guide with some classes that were taught in English. Out of around 20 options they found one taught out of a house in a Western Paris suburb. While they were there, they were speaking to the instructor about how they were from Seattle, to which she responded that her husband was relocating for work to Seattle in around 6 months.
They stayed in touch and stayed family friends for the first few months before their daughter came over to visit (who stayed in France for Medical School). Coincidentally my mother run into them at the store and decided that I would fall head over heels for her. That Fall my future wife decided to move over and my mom threw a welcome party for her. Following that, I put the moves on over Facebook and we started dating shortly thereafter. Married 1.5 yrs, together for a little over 5.

We met in the Army while I stationed at Ft Knox. She was friends with the guy that lived in the next room in the barracks. Her car wouldn’t run one day and she asked him for help. He said he didn’t know squat about cars but Walt next door does. So she knocked on my door and proceeded to tell me her Geo Metro would start but as soon as she would start moving backwards it would stall. I asked her if it had gas in it? She looked at me with this blank innocent look. She didn’t have to say anything as the look said it all. I grabbed my keys and said, “Let’s get you some gas.” At the time I also owned a Motorcycle shop and that’s where my gas cans were. So I stopped in the very dark shop parking lot. I guess she thought I was going to attack her as she tensed up and was going for the door handle. I explained to her it’s ok I own the place and this is where my gas cans are. She finally relaxed when she saw me plug in the security code.
We dated for 4 months and got married. That was over 18 years ago. |

Well, way back in England I worked for a structural steel company,in my spare time I built a steel boat and eventually sailed to the west indies, a bit the worse from beer one evening[and maybe a joint] I stopped in to a little bar for a last one. A cute American chick was doing a volunteer bar stint, 12 months later [Jan 85] we married. Still happy !

I've certainly enjoyed it.
Seems to be a lot of different ways to go about it......

One of the best threads ever.
Junior year 1977. In high school my buddy had parties least once a week. His mom was divorced and loved having kids over even though we drank beer. The drinkers would spend the night. They where having a birthday party for his sister which I had forgot about. Was out cruising or something. He had someone find me. As soon as I entered the front door I locked eyes with a girl sitting on the couch I've never seen before. It was like being stunned for a few seconds. Turned out to be a new friend of his sisters. Later on in the evening I sat next to her and we started talking. Although she didn't drink, was spending the night, so I didn't over do it myself. We where up all night. And I called next night. Went out that next weekend. Had a few hiccups during our dating period, especially me on the wild side, and her not at all. Once we got better jobs, and i started to settle done, she finally asked me in 82 if where ever gon'a get married. I said when? She said next spring. I said ok. We'r still together dispite me.

In the summer of 1974 I was 16 years old and had my first car, a 1964 Dodge Custom 880. Eric Clapton was going to be playing at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco. A friend of mine asked if I was going, but I said no because I didn't have a ticket. He knew a girl with an extra ticket but no ride, so he introduced us. We went to the show and had a good time. We began dating as seniors in high school (I had my first 65 GTO by then) and we got married in 1980. That was around 40-50 cars ago. Whenever someone comments that I never hang onto a car for long I just say, "yea, but I'm still on my first wife."

I was going thru a divorce it was taking forever. I used to go out on the weekends to dance clubs. I was looking around and this beautiful girl was at the bar, she saw me looking at her she looked at me and said "don't I know you from the bank?" The funny thing was I tried to pick up a bank teller that day pulling out my money to try and protect what was left from the ex.
I said which bank. She said she worked in a bank close by. She walked away with her friends but I knew I had to have a date at least. I stayed close by and when a good song came on I asked her to dance. We danced and talked for hours. I took her out again Sunday for diner and knew I would marry her. We have been married 20 years this September, 3 kids and she still is hot, even fits in the same size as when we met!!! I wish I fit in the same size as I was when we met. Never even thought about another woman since. |

At the local burger drive-in( ParkMoor ) where we all cruised-in, there was this really hot carhop with coal black hair and big blue eyes. She refused to date any of us street racers or even give us the time of day. I had a friend who was a friend of her brother. He introduced me to her and we went out the next weekend. That was 47 years ago and we married later that year. Now she's a grandmother and is still hot.

It was summer of 1971, and I was pumping gas at a local Mobil station. 17 years old with a 1968 Highland Green Mustang fastback. It was a cool car with a 289 V8 and a 3 speed stick, dual exhaust and chrome reverse wheels (remember those?)
These 2 girls used to come to the station to buy soda. One hot summer day that came in, and one of them really caught my eye. She was a smoking hot Italian girl that did all the right things to me..... ![]() I garnered the courage to ask her out, and our first date was at the local drive in, which is still open today (since 1955). The date cost me less than $10 - $3 for a half tank of gas, $2 to get into the drive in, and $3 for hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, and drinks. We dated until 1977, and were married. Still married, two grown sons, and still feel the same way about her today. |

First wife: It was 1983, I was 15 and a sophomore, she was 14. Knew a friend of hers and asked her out but friend wasn't really interested. As a joke or out of sheer boredom, friend has her female friend start calling me out of the blue. In those days of only land line phones but prior to caller ID, we would talk for hours, but she would not tell me her name, or where she lived, so I had no idea who she was. She asked me to mail her a photo, addressed to "Ester" at a Rural Route 1 address...so still no help in identifying her.
After several months she finally decided we needed to meet, which we did at a high school basketball game. I still had no license so was riding with a buddy of mine who had a 65 Mustang...we get to the high school and this pack of 7-8 girls comes up to the window so I had no idea which one of them she was...later she told me they did this in case I was ugly, she could escape. She did eventually come forward and identify herself, told me her real name then, Beth, and as a nice bonus she was the best looking of the group. Got my own license soon after and first time I ever drove solo was in my 76 Ventura (250 straight six at first, Pont 400 later) to her parent's farm house. Dated for over 2 years but not long after her HS graduation we went our separate ways for over 7 years...joined the Air Force, college, started a career, other girlfriends, etc. We got back together in 1994, got married in 2006, and have two healthy sons. All good things must come to an end though, we separated and divorced in 2004. Second wife: 2005...we met in a bar, lol. Was out having a beer with an Army Guard buddy of mine, Rebecca is in the Guard as well and dropped in. Started dating early 2006, married Oct 2008 and still going strong. She did tell me she heard over the years from our mutual friends the stories of the crazy parties and other goings-on at my place, and thought I must have been nuts. Our first date, I picked her up in my white 65 Grand Prix. Also had a Ford POS Escort wagon for work commuting...she told me later if I had shown up in that, she would have made up an excuse not to go out with me on the spot.

I think you were the only one. I spotted my wife when I rounded the huge bar at a favorite club and there she was sitting alone at a table. I asked her to dance (song was Takin Care of Business) I think we both new within an hour this was right. Funny thing is she was there with her best friend at the time and she was out dancing with a guy that asked her to dance moments before I showed up and they ended up getting married too. 27 years later, who says you can't find good women in a bar?

Met my wife 34 years ago at a place we both worked. She was 19. She forged her driver's license birthdate to come see my band play at a club. She told me that when we got married 10 years ago. Never knew I had that kind of effect on a woman till then! (I'll bet she's sorry now! LOL)

This is not my story but I am good friends with an elderly couple here. She is 86, he's 82.
In 1960, John went to England for a working holiday (lots of Aussies did that then and still do today). So he gets a job driving brand new Bedford trucks from the factory to dealers all over England. One day he got a plum job driving a new Bedford over to Germany to deliver to the British Forces stationed there. Ferry across the channel etc. But its winter, snowing and freezing. So this truck breaks down (it was an English truck remember!!!!), outside a house near Hamburg. After a while, the owner comes out to see if he can help, invites him in to warm up. Inside there a fire and warm food. AND a very attractive girl who was very keen to practice her English with him. John took a shine to her as she did him. Two days later he returned and she went back to England with him. Still together (never actually married but what does that matter), no kids and still happy as ever. ![]()
