Great pictures of what original trunk trim panels looked like. Just one question, can you confirm whether the dark green side of the panels is a "felt" material or not? The replacement panels sold by Ames and other suppliers say that their correct reproduction panels are covered in a green felt-like material. I remember the originals as just being a cardboard type material without felt.

You are correct - they are cardboard and have no felt. To my recollection - all the panels I have seen have been cardboard only. Did anyone ever see felt on these?

Thanks for confirming that the panels are just cardboard. Every original GP that I've seen had cardboard. Seems that only the aftermarket panels like Ames and OPGI have the felt type material over cardboard. I think they do it so that it matches their trunk floor mat. For what it's worth their trunk floor mat is the wrong material as well. Not even close to the original mat.

Never saw them before. They do look like the right shape/size. I just wish they came in the correct green color. I checked the listed supplier website and they have about 75 in stock for the same price and also offer free shipping. So there is no rush in ordering. Doesn't appear they have an original looking trunk floor mat. Will keep searching for that. If I find the right mat (material & color) then perhaps I can paint the cardboard panels to match? Thanks you for your help.

Mine are colored like the black/aqua spatter paint from the rest of the trunk. I have no doubt they are the original pieces.

My 69 Model J has the Space Saver option. I've got the original spare but am missing a few pieces. I'll have to snap some pics when I get a chance.

I guess the space saver spare cars had a full width mat?

Interesting about the spare tie down bracket being cut, doesn't makes sense that they would cut it because they didn't know when the dog houses were assembled which options it would have. For example cars with power antennas were built with a quarter panel that had holes pre stamped for the antenna hole. Maybe because it was such a low production option they chose to make all floor pans the same and chop it when needed?

One of my GPs is a low mileage time piece and those cardboard panels look like the day they were installed in the fall of 68. I'll get some pics of them posted this week. Don't remember the exact color but no felt, just painted cardboard and some kind of speckle effect if my memory serves me right.

Here is a pic from my original paint survivor 69 SJ. As you can see no coverage of the tub and its just speckle painted cardboard. I had to compress the pic to post it but the screws are the same stainless built in wide washer phillips screws commonly used on the interior soft trim.

Luckily this car had a bone dry trunk so no puffiness. Car is built 4th week of September 68 in the Pontiac plant of course, my other GP has the exact same panels and was built within 2 weeks of this car.

My 69 Bonneville Brougham 4 door hardtop has the same painted cardboard style (see pics) but they cover a larger area including the back of the wheel tubs and have creased areas to fold around features like the power antenna. My 69 Brougham convertible has the same panels seen in my 4 door car.

I also do not have a loop for the standard hold down hook bolt and my mat is full width. I'm missing the inflator canister, loop bracket for the canister, the bolt, and the wingnut. I'd love to have these pieces if anyone has found extras!

Wow, I'm glad I found this thread. I'll try to post some detailed pictures of my trunk. My 69 GP still has the passenger side cardboard panel and the original trunk mat. Scott, do you want to sell those pieces or does anyone know where I can find an original mounting bolt so I can get my Space Saver stowed correctly?
