Reproduction interior plastic panels
Will be redoing a tan interior in a 79 Trans Am. Looking for opinions/real world experiences with seat backs, rear upper and lower panels, arm rest pulls etc..
More than 1 manufacturer? Fortunately console and dash pad are very nice and won't need to replace those. Appreciate any input !! |

79 Interior
Good luck with your project!
I have recently finished a '78 with the tan interior. A good deal of my parts were reproduction (black) that I dyed tan. I might have some parts left, send me an e-mail on your specific needs. Thanks, Jim glasic74@hotmail.com |

For later years most of those parts are pretty good. Many are still available NOS also, but need to redye to match. OER does good kickpanels and sail panels. Likewise the armrests are neat, but also look at adding the old HELP #49251 armrest repair kits to them, beefs up the attachment points at the front by adding a steel insert into the plastic pull. MCI also do some neat parts, usually them or OER are safe for trim parts.

Also, here's a short video about the reproduction interior plastics, courtesy of Fbodywarehouse.com : http://transamcountry.com/community/...?topic=73396.0

Appreciate the replays !! I have redyed panels before having owned a lot of Mopars. I see Parts Place has seat backs, and rear panels/sail panels in tan.
Last week I put Parts Place seat backs on a friends 70 Caprice. Parts Place was actually embossed in the panels from the tooling. They were suppose to be dark blue, I thought the color was way off, but I have to say I was VERY impressed with the fit. They were dead nuts on with fit and there is about zero room for error with how the seat release button fits on those. The color wasn't a big issue to me as that can always be dialed in with dye. I am leaning towards Parts Place for all their tan items and expect to refog them with dye. Was just curious if there were any particular vendor/pieces to stay away from, I know in the Mopar world there are many nice pieces, and some just awful stuff. |

Typically, there is one manufacturer of the item that is then carried by all the different suppliers. This isn't true for every part, but I believe it is for most. I have not used any of the reproduction trim panels other than kick panels, but from what I have seen, they look good.

I hate repop, just scour the swaps, it takes time, but you can find themnOS, I recently found a nOS pkg tray, and a second set of camel mats.

I have found some nice used originals on eBay. The ones from northern states or even Canada are usually best, where the interiors have survived better in the cooler temps.
