Default Pretty sure...

cover is gloss...not any kind of semi or flat. Also believe screws are silver...but I'm no authority. Just going by what I've seen.

I think you'll be fine with a 60% gloss. Most of the NOS I come across reflect this.
Yes the screws are bare not painted.

I didn't think you could see any reflection in a 60% finish...but I've been out of the game for awhile.

I have a number of NCRS Corvette judging manuals ranging from 1960 to 1967. They all specify gloss black as correct for the voltage regulator cover. I would assume the Delco Remy paint application for Pontiac would be the same.

Default Not to split hairs...

I choose to go by and/or match to NOS parts,
Besides 60 degree is a gloss, just not full/high gloss.
90% of the ones I see on the "restored Cars" always look way to glossy.
But I think either will fly upon show inspection, I know mine do.

This is also an nos in my '66...

I have several NOS regulators and all show a very high gloss. Jeff please pull the cover of both your NOS regs and see what lies below. I only have the 1119515...correct for 64-66 and later Tempest and not the 1119511 big car regs. I would doubt a gloss difference between the 2 lines. As well, I only have May of 64 (4E) dated regulators so if service replacements thoughout the production run of the 515 had a different gloss, others must chime in. Also, all of the screws are plated like silver cad. My examples do not have the screw driver slot in the head and only have a hex head. I have seen many screw alternates thru the years. I`ll try and post a pic later.

keep in mind the paint used was not of the highest quality. as used on the exterior of car. if the inside was painted they may have been dipped

the cover is the same as the C2 vettes use . may want to visit a corvette forum to hear what they say

Actually the Delco folks couldn`t have cared less which GM car line received the 1119515 as they all used it from 64 up until the self regulated alternators were on scene. In other words the reg lid was all the same and dipped in gloss black and heat dryed. The vette guys` handbook has hundreds of questionable requirements that never are proven and I say that owning and loving 64 and 65`s vettes since I was 15. In fact the Cadillac restorers or Corvair restores may have a handle up over the vette for GM correctness. JMO

well the most restored car in history is the corvette. there are hundreds of good survivor cars to examine through out the years. the ncrs are the most organized respected group of people in the car hobby. certainly there thoughts on these covers would be hard to argue with.

I also have had long term history with corvettes and the community. my first car was a 435 car in 1971 and have never not had a vette. even to now i have two. a z06 and a grand sport. given all that i have always had a pontiac in some form also.

just thinking. cant go to wrong with there lead on this

I still don't understand the slot in the cover screw. Have seen S and P, but not the slotted screws!!! "Bill"!

DLD... Like Craig Jackson said in an interview...."I have sold all of the known aluminum block 69 vettes, which includes 25 more than were ever made, and verified as original by the ncrs." Personally I wouldn`t trust the ncrs to call nite or day. JMO
Simply pull the cover from the regulator and see what the unexposed color is. I would bet DLD you will find glossy black. (without ncrs)

Bill the reg I am holding has no slots and no markings like the S or P. But I have seen them that way.

no argument here on the gloss. that's how mine is. car has been to gtoaa twice and never got a point off for gloss level on the cover.

I don't think any group gtoaa ncrs or others will put there name on a claim of original car motor ect. they only inspect as to whats looks correct.

For 1964

I agree with those that voted gloss black. I believe these covers were dipped, and not sprayed. Removing the covers, I have seen several areas inside the covers void of paint in the edges and corners where air pockets had formed. Aside from body paint, I believe these regulator covers were only one of three components on the entire car that were painted gloss black. The other two would be the housing for the rear window defogger and the housing for the Verba-Phonic System.

The screws and base were cadmium plated.
