Remove fender w/out removing nose 79 Trans Am
Can a fender on a 79 Trans Am be removed/replaced without removing/loosening the nose/front bumper cover?

Open your hood, reach in beside the front of the marker lights and feel the inside of the fender towards the nose. If you can feel some nuts where the fender meets the nose, then the nose must be removed as the bolts/studs for these nuts are embedded in the nose.

yes you can remove the fender without removing the nose. the 2 nuts mentioned above are on the backside of the fender, you undo them along with all other fender bolts & the fender will pull back & off the 2 studs in the nose. you need to carefully pull the back of the fender up, out & off the cowl area while being carefull to clear the door edge (much more important if the paint is nice)
once you loosen the nuts & bolts attaching the front of the fender to the nose, the end of the nose will move a little & allow you to pull it forward slightly. just takes a little finess & it will definitely come off with the nose on. |

Appreciate the responses ! Car is at my buddies so I haven't had time to mess with it. I have a nice pair of fenders here that I am going to use on the car, looking at them, looks like each has 4 attaching points to the nose, sounds like the top two would probably be the ones where the studs would come through from the nose?

yep, top 2 are the studs & bottom 2 are normal bolts into the metal clip on the nose.
