Pilgrimage
Today I took a cruise into West Los Angeles. 10860 Santa Monica Blvd. to be exact. This is the former location of Jules Meyers Pontiac from 1965 til the mid '70's. Where my '68 Firebird was delivered, brand new on January 15th, 1968. Surprisingly (for L.A.) the original building still stands although it's been converted to a World Market. Jules Meyers was a pretty well known west coast dealer as he dabbled in many high performance Pontiacs, campaigned a race car and also had the exclusive right to sell the, then quite popular, Stutz Blackhawk, built on the Grand Prix chassis. Celebrities from Elvis to Dean Martin, Evel Kneivel, Lucille Ball, etc. snapped up these garish looking over priced Stutz's as quickly as they were built. Pictures show my car parked in front of one of the former display room windows, the interior currently, with its unmistakable beam and rafter look and a picture of Jules himself handing the keys to Elvis for one of the 5 Stutz's he bought over the years.
