Need pic of 389 starter holes ....
I have a 1964 GP with the "Slim Jim" or roto hydro automatic that has the starter mounted to the bell housing....Iam told that I need the holes for a block mounted starter to put in a 4 speed OR a Newer transmission th400 or 200R4. I pulled the starter out today to find the holes.... I just need a picture of that area ..if someone has one.....just to make sure I can continue with the swap. Not sure how a block mounted starter bolts up. Thanks for Any help !

It would seem a bit easier to find the correct style bell housing, then you can put that 4-speed in with your existing block.
I have one I'm not going to use, PM me if interested.

Since his car is a '64 the correct holes are most likely there. He could use the early style bellhousing but it does open the opportunity to use the later style as well.

Every '64 block I've seen has the starter holes already drilled and tapped.
That includes both a-body and b-body engines, 326, 389 & 421.

I started with a 1986 cutlass 442 transmission core (reason below) told my trans guy what I wanted & what I was going to do with the car not race it. just a cruiser just use a large trans cooler is what I am always told --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- there are a lot of variations of the 200r4 if you buy a core to start with (look below at info to identify the most desirable) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The TV Cable Adjustment is the most important part of a successful installation of your 2004R. The TV cable is not a kick down cable as some think. The TV cable or detent cable is a Throttle Valve Cable that adjusts main line pressure of your 2004R based on throttle position. This variable adjustment of main line pressure is to insure proper line pressure for the amount of torque that is being applied to the clutch packs inside of your transmission, based on throttle position. Too much TV pressure results in 2nd gear starts and harsh extended shifts. Too little TV adjustment results in early shifts, soft shifts and ultimately in the failure of the transmission. read the rest here http://www.extremeautomatics.com/ima...on_Install.pdf --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The most desirable TH-200-4Rs for performance enthusiasts are the units manufactured for Buick Grand National, Olds 4-4-2 and Chevy Monte Carlo SS in 1986-'87. These units used a special valve body. They also had a larger reverse boost valve, second to third intermediate servo, and a specially designed governor assembly. Their BQ, OZ, CZF, KZF or BRF transmission codes can identify these more desirable units. read the rest here https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hm...s/3694151.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you need help let me know. I don't live far from you. My 1964 GP has a T350 and my 1967 GTO has a 200-4R so I may have the sources you need plus you can check out installations if you need to.
