I love my stick car, but now that I am 50+ I like my turbo 400,
I guess I'm getting lazy!

I try to find Manual cars just because I like em , I spent all my life in the racing industry ,dirt and road racing bikes and SCCA Road racing.
So a manual was a natural thing to get, but when you start looking for old iron, sometimes you are just as happy to find a real clean one even if it has an automatic transmission. My 73 bird was one of them. I thought about converting it to manual at first, the idea of a nice white hurst shift knob shaking at idle in the all black car with black interior was very appealing. But now that I am changing the 'built' 350p for a 461 and 250 shot of nitrous on top, the thing would be a handful trying to click a decent quarter mile time , keeping the transmission and clutch together and it would be a torture for the rest of the driveline like U joints and Axles with sticky tires. So I decided to stay Automatic. Besides my Ram pick up, the family hauler 4runner and my Girlfriends Vette all my other vintage cars are Stick. |

Mine was born with a Turbo 400. I love the car but was growing tired of the auto trans and no overdrive.
A TKO600 with the .64 OD was the cure.

I won't change my GTO from a manual transmission for anything. When I had it on the strip it was dead consistent. The Turbo 350 in my Grand Prix is nice but if I had the money for parts I'd change it to a 4 speed.

I've had both in my 71.
I've had a 455 with an ST10 A 455 with a TH350 And now a 5.3 LM7 with a TH350 I really liked the low end grunt of the 455 with the stick, but the car is soooooo much more drivable now with the current combo.

I bought my T/A off the lot. I was a senior in high school, wanted a new or newer car.
Had a choice between my black/ black car or white car w/ red interior, was easy decision. Only difference between cars was, white car had 8 track player, I didn't give crap about that. Of course both were automatic, low option T/A's....my preference would have been a 4 speed...

The 81 I had was a blast. To run across one with a factory 4spd is a rarity.

Cause it was a girls car with max HP of only 210hp, hence no man pedal.

Love the 4 speed in my T/A. It was definitely a deciding factor back when I was shopping for one.
My DD is a manual as well and I'm always amazed at the number of valets that have to run and get someone else because they can't drive a stick.
