My buddy tracked down his old Chevelle SS 396 that he bought new in 1970 in Kiota, Iowa after his tour in Vietnam ended with the Marines. He owned it for about 5 years, parked it when gas got too high and he couldn't afford insurance. Sold for it $1500. He said it looked as good when he sold it as the day it was new. I believe him based on how meticulous he is with his other cars.
We drove to north Georgia just to look at it. It still a nice car although the color has been changed to from Astro Blue to Fathom Blue and the 396 has been replaced with a 454. Talk about memories flooding back to him when he got back behind the wheel. He drove this car when he met, dated, married his current wife and started his family. He went back to school on the the GI bill and started out working at JC Penney's as an assistant manager before he came south in pursuance of other job opportunities. The car he owns now is because of this car. He had saved all his Marine Corp paychecks to buy a new car when he got out. He had his eyes set on a new 1969 Corvette but he told me that when he hit San Diego he checked out the new 70 Chevelle sitting in the base parking lot. When he got back to Kiota, he didn't have enough money saved to buy the Corvette so he bought the Chevelle. This is what's in his garage now - Oh yeah, guess what sits next to it, a 69 Corvette. All pictures taken by me. |

The Qtr Mirror
Take a look at the reflection off the qrtr panel. When I took this picture I really had no idea the other GTO was there. Kinda eerie.

These are from the New Years Eve party I was at and Sunday morning. Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad fame. Greater even on Sunday morning [1-1-17] as I got him out to drive the GTO. Other than the party he said it made his weekend even better. And even a plus it was the first outing of the New Year for the Goat.
Just a small gathering of 80 people. And Mark doing what he does best. Just back from our ride Sunday......
