Should I buy it?
Hey Everyone -
New here - lurking over at GTOForum until I came across this car - I'm really interested in it. Wanted to get some opinions - everyone has one! I have docs from PHS on the way to find out the exact deal. But until then... - What are your overall impressions? See anything noteworthy? - Very curious to hear value ranges (assuming it proves to be a #'s Sprint)? Sorry for all the pics of Dad - I couldnt peel him away from the car. We scoured this thing for an hour and couldnt find any rust anywhere - even crawled under it. if there was some hiding, it escaped us. Paint and metal are in great shape. Took it for a 10 mile spin, around town and up to about 60mph. Smooth as silk - suspension felt a little floaty. Steering whined a little - added just a bit of fluid and it stopped - I suspect a small leak somewhere but everything was dry. So what'dya think? Should I buy it? :-) |

Does the PHS reflect STRIPE DELETE or were they just not replaced after a repaint?
Bit of discoloration on the PS kick panel could be from a past or present leak, I would at the least ask to get it up on a lift and look real close. Auto trans sprint not uncommon but not at the top of the heap either. All the Bells & Whistles work? Run all systems to be sure as some of this stuff is getting costly to replace. Big question is, Whats the asking price. These OHCs regrettably do not pull in the big money as Brother GTO's. I've seen this car several times of the years for sale, so not sure if it's been changing hands or the same seller just holding out. Overall looks like a decent '67 if it all checks out, Just be sure it's something you can live with.

Sprint's are great cars, they are very nimble and spunky. Looks like a nice find. A solid body has significant value, rust cost money and a lot of time.

Wow, air conditioning and everything. That seems like a very nice car. You didn't mention price, but I'm assuming that it's reasonable if you are interested in buying it. Good luck.

Wow Jeff - that is indeed the same car. The current owner has had it since 09 - where and when was that pic taken?
Everything seems to work fine - AC blows not super cold, but cold; windows all work as proper, switches all work. 15 is the starting number. I guess big question is whether or not I'll be happy with the Sprint 6, or if I'll end up wanting more...a question only I can answer! |

Those pics are at least a year+ old based on the my number on file.
Location and price listed not recorded, Something I should have been doing on all the OHC cars I log. Anyhow IMHO that price is the high point based on condition shown, Is there some wiggle room on that?. She looks solid, But I would again ask to see it on a lift. How are all the rubber components and overall fit and finish of body panels/Gaps? Best of luck with your decision. Cheers

I heard back from PHS - relevant doc attached. So it looks like this is an original Sprint.
The body really is in great shape. Gaps are all good, with really nice fit and finish. Actually, if it were not for that I wouldn't even be interested. The rubber is newish, pliable and in great shape around doors, windows and trunk. Really this is coming down to me trying to decide if it's going to be enough engine to satisfy...like Jeff said, "....something I can live with..." |

Sprints are very unique, don't look at it as a horsepower thing. These are quite rare today and very seldom see at shows and will draw a crowd. I have owned pretty decent horsepower cars in the past but I really enjoyed the nimbleness of my 67 Sprint LeMans, it was a lot of fun. Mine was a floor shift 3 speed, I sold it back to the original owner.

Nice car but the automatic would hold me back, kind of kills the whole idea of a sprint in my humble opinion, especially a 2 speed

Ya, mine is the two speed auto on the column. I'd like to switch over to the 200R4, but will likely install the 350 Turbo, due to the ease of installation. At least I would get 50% more gears!

the TH-350 swap will make acceleration a bit better due to the lower 1st gear, you can put a shift kit in them to help with the upshifts, but it will only give you a miniscule MPG increase due to less internal rolling resistance of the trans. The Final gear ratio's are the same 1 to 1 for the TH-350 and the ST-300 transmissions.
I did the swap a couple of times in the late 70's and it does help the City driving experience. I stuck with Manual trans OHC-6's after that time frame just more fun to me, and suits the torque band of the OHC-6 IMO.

My father had one just like it. The engine went bad so he put the 389 from the old 60 Bonneville in it. It was very fast.

As much as I like the car, I think that if I have this much hemming and hawing, it isn't the right car. As soon as I started having those thoughts "...I could just put a 389 in it and change the trans, rear end, exhaust....." I knew it would be a mistake.
I'll give the PHS packet I bought to the owner and keep looking... I do appreciate the replies here! |

Seems like a nice car. Where is it located, maybe someone here on the forum may want to have a look at it.
