Default 67 GTO OIL PAN

How do I know if the pan that I have is the a 5-6-7 quart pan. I would assume the side of the pan would be deeper on 6qt, but what would that be. Thanks for your help.

There is no pan difference. Dipstick is different.

Thank you, then I could have the wrong dipstick or dip stick tube or both tubes. Would you know the length of the tubes and the dipstick- with a/c

I can't help with the inside tube but I think they are all the same. I can get measurements on the outer tube and dipstick from my 67 A/C car tomorrow morning. I can tell you that the tube bolts to the back of the compressor. Also, my car holds six quarts with a filter change.

Only the length and markings on the dipstick itself changed to indicate the proper oil level.

None of the dipstick tubes changed.

fyrffytr1, did you get a chance to measure the oil stick tubes, the lower (what you can see) and the upper and what the top mounts to, thanks in advance

Every time the dipstick tube is removed from the block and driven back in after engine work, the tube shrinks and the dipstick will show full with less oil. I've seen some that were abused so badly that the tubes had shrunk enough to be almost a quart off. So block tube length also plays an important part in what the dipstick is going to read. Ames lists their tubes as 9" long, but the stainless tubes I've purchased from Inline Tube are 9-1/8" long. The curved tube in the photo is also 9-1/8" long so if it is an Ames tube, then the advertised length is a little off.

Ames lists different tubes for A/C and non A/C. I believe the curved tube in photo came from Ames, but I don't have the invoice so I don't know for sure. It came in a box of new parts for an engine I'm putting together for a friend. I ordered the straight tube in the photo from Inline Tube and they don't list different tubes for A/C and non A/C. Wondering if the curved tube is for A/C and the bend would help correctly locate the top tube for attaching to the A/C bracket pivot bolt at the rear of the A/C unit? Again, just speculation on the curved vs. straight tube at this point. The Inline Tube piece is malleable enough that it can be tweaked into position, and the last install was on a '68 GTO with A/C and we got it aligned to the compressor pivot bolt without a problem.

FWIW, I've installed about eight of the stainless Inline Tubes and they all have went in with no problem, but still snug in the hole.

FGT,
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. Sometimes life gets in the way. Anyway, I measured the upper tube as best as I could and it came out to about 11.5". It has a dogleg shape to it that I hope you can see in one of the pictures. There is a bracket welded to it that bolts to the lower back compressor pivot . I also measured the dipstick from the bottom of the cap to the tip and it is 28.5"s long. My dipstick is marked 6 quart. I could not get a measurement on the bottom tube with the compressor and exhaust manifold in the way. Here are some pictures. The last one shows the curve in the upper tube. Also. the trash on the dipstick came from the workbench and was wiped off before being put back into the motor.
