Rockport looks awful on Weather Nation.
Missouri City seemed to have been hit hard. My brother used to live there, very flat...no good...

We're 80 miles east of Houston and it rained hard here all night long. Wife got no sleep because of it, unlike her husband who slept like a log. We are high so no problem for us but there will be major flooding in all low areas I bet. The screens on the net are saying this thing will just stay down here forever and keep dumping rain.

Inundated with rain, measured 20" here around my place in far North Houston. I'm on high ground so no flooding but more rains on the way. It's a terrible mess in south Houston.

I have parts plated at a shop in south east Houston, Speed and Sport Chrome Plating. Looking at the location on a map, I suspect they are in one of the badly flooded areas. My neighbor sent a part to them that was delivered on Friday. I suspect if he sees it again it will be a long time from now. |

I am hoping for the best. About 20 years ago, I helped a friend try to clean up after the Tar River and its tributaries in eastern NC flooded. His house backed up to a creek that fed into the Tar. The water rose 25 ft (above flood level, I think) and flooded the entire first floor about six feet high, his attached garage to the roof, and his detached garage about 8 ft high. His Ram IV GTO and a 66 Mustang his wife owned since it was new were both submerged. When I got to his house, it was a strange sight. Everything that was submerged was the same monochrome color of red/tan from the red clay. The cleanup was a long and strenuous process.

I have quite a bit of family in the Houston area myself. One of my Aunts has been texting blow-by-blow updates for the last couple of mornings. No word so far today but it's still early there.

Larry have you heard anything from Lloyd?
Isn't he in that southern area? Haven't heard from Lloyd for quite awhile.

Thanks for the prayers!
We've had something like 30" of rain at my house since this started. I'm across the street from canal homes, those canals drain into Clear Lake, which in turn drains into Galveston Bay. We've had street flooding that came up well into our yard 4 or 5 times (possibly more, while I was asleep), but it drains off rapidly when the rain eases/stops. It would take about a 15' storm surge to put us at risk. With Harvey going BACK into the Gulf and predicted to hit Galveston on Wednesday/Thursday, that is when we will be at biggest risk.

Just sent out a couple of texts to cousins and Aunt. All safe as far as life and limb but cars totaled, extensive damage to house and internals on the lower levels.
Of course, they're hostages in their house with no power but at least one household was prepared with a generator. Not sure about some of the others.
