Did you have to inform DMV about the VIN on the frame? A customer's 1967 Corvette had to be verified by DMV at my shop a couple of weeks ago. He bought it out of Oklahoma.
DMV officer looks at the car and asks ME where the VIN tag is located.

My late 66 Tempest (bare bones, "K" in the vin) has round OEM rivets. I suspect that if a plant had both styles on hand, they could have played favorites... dunno. More responses can't hurt

MY 65 2 plus 2 from Kansas also had round rivets and was put on backwards! I had it changed this year! I have the original build sheet that came with the car.. Fred

My one-family-owned 66 GTO convertible (built the last week in March 66 in Kansas City) has rosette rivets.

For my 66 GTO... round rivets for the data plate, and rosette for the VIN tag.

Yes, the DMV officer DID have to look under the car. If the body mounts were in better shape, it might have been easier.
