Default TKO600 Noise

I'm looking for some insight on my tko600.

It has about 6000 miles on it and for the past 2000, has been making a rattling noise in 5th gear. The noise is present under any type of load in gear, but goes away when coasting or when the clutch is disengaged. I've had the driveshaft angles checked and that was not the issue. I'm using the synchromesh fluid in it as well. It sounds like its eating itself alive.

The noise is similar to what is seen in this video below, though that is not my car.

I have searched around, and this seems pretty common. Is there a solution to it, or is this just how it is? Its pretty annoying, and I'll have to pack sound deadening over the tunnel to try and reduce it.

Thanks

I was wondering this myself. I would ask Paul at 5speeds.com if the rear counter gear bearing race and shim are correct; see 9:27 of the following video:

That's some good info. I've acquired the service manual for it and have been looking at those parts as well. Everything I see seems like it's not an issue for reliability, just annoying. I've sent the same information to Tremec and will see what they say.

I have a similar issue. Only 6-700 miles but cant say it wasn’t there from the beginning. Almost sounds like the cross between a bearing and a clearance problem between the tranny and body. Ive checked clearances with the floorboards and nothing jumps out. Local tranny shop says “yeah, thats wierd but looks ok to us. Run it ill it fails”.
We shall see

Tremec support is, so far, not being very helpful. I've already gotten the standard cop out "Did you align the bell housing" excuse (which I did). Will see where it goes from there. I'm guessing the long term solution will be to pack insulation around the tunnel and see how long it runs for. At least the mpg improvement makes up for the racket it makes.

The last question the rep from Tremec asked me 2.5 days ago was about what mounts I have on the car (poly engine, rubber trans) and no replies since then.

I think that means I'm SOL on any further help from them.

As long as it doesn't blow up, I'll accept it.

Mounts, Smounts, isn't going to cause a noise inside the trans. Bearing or gear with excessive clearance, usually, Sometimes a heavier oil will give some "cushion" and quiet it somewhat. Give Paul a call at 5speeds.com. But to ask for help on a trans you didnt buy from him? I dont know.

Mine really sounds like a kids toy when a bearing starts to go bad. Kind of a rattle//chirp kind of deal.
Like I said. At this point I drive w the radio on and ignore it. Someday it will break and Ill know...

Tremec does not stand behind their stuff.

I've come to realize this after seeing their excuse for everything is dowel pins.

The trans being based off the 3550 used by Ford, I don't think every one of those was set up precisely by hand like they say you must with the tko. It just seems like a load of garbage to me.
