1961 421 Super Duty dual quad setup
This was just finished for someone in Arizona. It is going on a '61 batwing with a 421 cubic inch engine and is calibrated with .092 primary jets, .070 secondary jets, and .053x.059 metering rods. The carbs were cloned off of 1959 Buick 2840
carbs, half of which have the right look but half of which do not. The intake is a 54299 Mickey Thompson and the only difference between it and the PMD 542991 is the extra digit at the end of the PMD casting. General consensus seems to be that thirteen 421SD cars were made up, all over the counter, with none from the factory. The carbs that were put on them were 3010 1960 Pontiac NASCAR 4 barrels, which look externally just like the '62/'63 3433/35 carbs except that the 3010s retained their non functioning choke bodies where the '62/'63 carbs had a manual choke on the rear carb. If you look closely at the rear carb in the one picture you will see that a manual choke is installed on it and the choke body has a notch machined into it so as to allow the choke cable bracket to be installed. This was done because this will go on a street car and the fellow needs a choke (mebby not in Arizona?). There are other very minor differences between '61 and '62/'63 setups but I won't go into them here. |
