Both people are correct. According to the Delco manual I have, the R87 battery is for vehicles other than high optioned cars in 1977. The high option cars received the Freedom Battery for 1977 and were standard in 1978 and beyond. (Items that are bold is what was standard). Sorry for the picture, I couldnt figure out how to rotate it.
