Default 70 GTO vert just sold on Mecum in Dallas

Yellow w/tan interior looked real clean...$27500???? I've had 3 1967 verts, 1 being an original HO car but been out of Pontiac for a while, but does this seem real cheap/steal??? https://www.mecum.com/lots/DA1018-33...o-convertible/

That looks like a nice car and seems like a low price. There was no real text on the link other than the idiotic big block statement. Looks like it had Ram air III exhaust manifolds which I don't think are right for a 70 455. So I have no idea what it actually has for an engine. Something between a 350 and a 455 I guess. Even if it does have the wrong engine, and it may be correct, seems like a good deal.

Must be the dash pad crack. Otherwise a more valuable GTO Convert.

Idiot lights, and crappy headrests. note to buyer I have a pair of original Tan Headrests for ya.

That looked like a pretty nice car but appeared to be a high quality driver with recent paint and trim. '70 455 would be have #96 Dport heads and ram air manifolds, no?

A 70 GTO factory equipped with a 455 would have #64 D port heads and standard exhaust manifolds.

Believe I hauled down & propperly installed a rebuilt Eaton posi unit in the 3.07 single track 12 bolt rear in that '70 455 GTO convert. That was at Quints place in WTF in about 1999 or 2000. Car was that exact color combo, factory 455 Auto GTO convert & was owned by an attorney in Ft Worth area @ the time. Car was fairly nice local show car & Quint was doing some detail work on it. I don't remember the RA manifolds, but many cars have been so upgraded.

Looking at Mecum pics, it may not be the same '70 convert, I don't remember that particular 455 convert being factory non AC car. Mention that though have looked at a ton of '70 GTO converts in the last 20 years & have installed posi carriers in quite a few factory '70 model peg leg 3.07 & 3.31 12 bolts.

That would have been a steal on a genuine 70 455-HO with Factory Ram Air Induction option.
So probably nothing about it is genuine except the exterior color.

The interior is even 2-toned with Saddle dash , carpet and kick panels.
Not sure what color the seats , console , and door panels are. But sandalwood was the lighter shade - and that ain't sandalwood stuff.
Maybe that is PUI sandalwood version. idunno

Even a great deal for a 455-HO Vert
The bidders saw more then we can see. The ones like this usually have plenty of explanation when a PY member comes on later that was present at auction.

Bottom line, no original engine etc. ... just an average old car.

If it was all original, yeah, a steal.

A steal if it was a real 455 RA car but still a nice ride.

Agree with HIS on the "crappy headrests" .

I don't get the tower clamps and the "correct' hoses..why bother ?? carpet on the side of the console?.. the headrest also....droopy rear bumper, and looks like the front bumper had a little mishap in the middle? too much to mention.. car is a failed attempt to look "correct" I guess!..great driver I guess..

I think the sale price reflects the myriad of defects, some of which you mentioned. A correct #1 GTO like this should still bring 50K+. All depends on what the buyer was looking for. As mentioned, may not even be a GTO.
