Rear Window Regulator for '64 Convertible
Is the rear window regulator specific to the convertible or same for Post Coupe and/or Hardtop?
My driver side regulator needs replacing, doesn't look like they are reproduced, but before I go chasing a used one, like to know if it has to be from a convertible or not. |

Thx, rare4k. Was hoping it was not specific to the convert. I'll start looking for one.
Jim, one of the rollers had broken off. A substitute roller was pop riveted on but it did not hold. The original rollers have a much stouter rivet to hold them. Part of the problem is that the repro weatherstrips are causing problems for the quarter glass adjustment. Can't get the window to go up into the weatherstrip channel where it belongs. After comparing to the original weatherstrips, we think we need to open up the slots for the weatherstrip attaching screws to move the weatherstrip outward. The repro screw slots in the weatherstrip seem to be too far outboard so that the weatherstrip window channel is located too far outboard for the window. Both sides have the similar issue but the driver side is worse and the one that broke. If opening up the screw slots works, maybe the rollers wouldn't be so stressed but if I can locate one with good rollers, I'd go that route rather than a suspect repair. Opinions about this are welcome. |

John, I have 1 side at the shop. Let me see which it is and will let you know this PM.

John,
Ames sells the original style roller and heavy duty stud as a set - J134P. See if that looks OK for your application. |

Jim, we saw that when we checked if a complete repop regulator was sold.
I'm not looking at the regulator so I'm not exactly sure which roller broke, the J134P or one of the J134M rollers. Either way, the problem was that it was only pop riveted in place. Not sure what we would need to install with a stouter rivet. |

John: Here is some more info in case you find it useful.
The regulator asm. has one roller. It is at the end of the arm. It is a straight or fixed roller meaning it rotates on only one axis like a rear wheel on a car. The part J134P is the correct replacement. The metal part that grips the bottom of the glass is called a channel asm by GM. It has three rollers, part J134M with stud and MC w/o stud. These rollers are 2 axis so they are allowed to turn sideways while they rotate. Think wobble. I would expect that your body man can peen or swage the end of these parts. |
