Default Vinyl Top care

I have a 70 Bonneville. What do you guys use to polish/wax your vinyl top?

A friend of mine owns an upolstry business. He told me on a vinyl top to clean it with soap and water. That's it, nothing else.

For cleaning I agree that you shouldn't use anything harsh on them, soap and water (and maybe a soft scrub brush to clean out the grain) should be all that's needed. However, I think they're like any other vinyl or plastic interior trim, and they also need protection from UV. My two favorite products for that are Vinylex and 303 Aerospace Protectant.

That's a beautiful car, by the way.

The 303 protectant is GREAT stuff. I'll never use Armor-All again.

And yes, beautiful car!

I’m not sure about water?
If it is a 1970 “Original” Cordova Top I would hesitate on getting it wet.

I use 303 protectant on my “Original” 1965 Cordova Top. Looks great!

That's fine if you never get caught in the rain.

Water won't hurt vinyl, although if there are tears in it the water will help promote corrosion on the metal underneath.

Thanks for the replies. I already use 303 and love it. I was asking for when the rear window rot is fixed. I'll want to take care of the new top. Use to be back in the 70's I used a vinyl top polish you applied like shoe polish. Then buffed it out. Looked amazing!

Thanks for the Great Car! She's a survivor, so she's a 30 footer. The rear window leaks like a sieve. In the process of getting some quotes on the repair. AC needs redone, frt suspension needs updated with bushings, and maybe ball joints. Haven't evaluated the car yet for what all needs done.

The wife and I talked today. Think we/I are going to freshen the motor up a bit, get the T400 stiffened up a bit. Just to scrape the surface. Y'all be hearing from me in the future.

It was garage kept. Former owner washed and waxed the car weekly (Sundays) in his front yard. Then put it back in the garage. His Grandson told me that at the time of purchase. Couple months later at a car show a complete stranger recognized the car. He told me the same story, every Sunday, wash n wax. Guess it was a true story. By looking at the rot, I believe it!

Attached some rot pictures.

Same advice for a new top. Mine is new in fact and I've been using the 303 once a month or so ever since. Looks exactly like the day it was put on, 4~5 years ago.
I'd get that glass out of there and see just how much rot there is.

Ditto.

I have been using 303 for over a year now, it drank it in for 3 coats before the shine became uniform.
I have the towlettes and the spray, amazing product.
