1970 Front Disc Conversion and XE Wheels
I know that 14” factory wheels can be a problem with disc brake conversions, but my understanding is that my factory 14” XE steel wheels “should” work with the Ames and Inline Tube factory OEM style disc conversions since the XE was compatible with the optional disc brakes in ‘70. Have you encountered issues with XEs on these conversion kits? I’m not interested in changing wheels.
Also, would the 2-piece rotor be the “correct” one for ‘70? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If the kits are true OEM style i can´t see why the XE rims would´t fit?
AFAIK the two piece rotor was used at the time as the JL Rally II´s with black center caps were used, to the end of 1969. I don´t have the exact date available, but my memory says mid december 1969. |

Thank, Kenth. My thoughts exactly. It “should” work, but I’m curious if anyone has direct experience with the recent kits from Ames or Inline Tube. They don’t list the part numbers of the kit components, but I suppose I could ask for them to better know what I’d be getting.

have a friend who bought ilt repro caliper mounting brackets. he went to test fit original disc brake rims and they interfered with the brackets. called ilt and was told, thats how they are, you have to grind the repro brackets. he immediately took them off (may have pitched them, not sure) and after sending out his originals for plating, is putting them back on.
