Wanted: Instructions for installation of '66-'67 GTO door edge guards
Wanted: Instructions for installation of '66-'67 GTO door edge guards. I'd also like details on the screws. I recall they were phillips-head screw but I don't recall the size/diameter or the length.

If you set the trim on the door edge the contour dictates placement.
Also looking close at the inner door there are drill guide dimples used for placement as well.

SCREWS
IIRC these had a sealant applied from the factory, but over time and a few R&R,
I always apply a dab of 3M strip caulk/Dum Dum.

Every set of door edge guard accessory kits I have had had nothing on the screws but natural plating. Still looking to see if I still have a picture of the instructions.

I recommend a product called Door Eaze to facilitate installation.
It is a stack lubricant that help press on moldings not skive the paint. Provides rust protection too. I use it on all strikers and rubber bumpers. |

Originally these guards were installed "dry" onto a car with lacquer paint. Today's urethane paint is 3 to 4 times the thickness of the original finish. Couple that with a car that is always garaged and likely not to see more than 2500 miles a year. I never seen rust caused by the guards back then and it is highly unlikely to happen today. Don't over-think and make a project out of a simple door edge guard. Just install and enjoy.

BFH now that's the way to get them on
 Since these are SS not likely going to rust. Just seal the screws with the above mentioned and all will be fine. My Thick paint '66 has seen more rain then I care for but it's all good. Chief, I think you are correct on the wax, I know it was on some of the body trim screws just don't recall which. Cheers.
