I have read that garlic can also repel them, but that it requires frequent reapplication.

Birds love to sit on Mustangs eating insects, and then poop on them.

Try WD40 It won't hurt the metal and they should slide right out of there.

I have House Finches and Carolina Wrens making nests in my potted plants and several other places every year. Go to water the plant and a bird flushes out and scares the crap out of you.
I've run several out of my attached garage so far this spring. They will build on top of a paint can on a shelf of something. I don't generally mind them if it's in a convenient place, as I'm a bird lover, but they don't realize that the garage door is going to be shut most of the time....plus, I don't want them crapping on the cars.
One really weird one was the one that tried to build a nest on one of the fan blades of the ceiling fan on my front porch. She was so insistent that I had to leave it running for about 2 weeks straight.

I follow you there but they use those things on a lot of the transit system stations here (where I work) and they are ALL covered with bird shiite!

I have the plastic owls in my garden. Seems to reduce (not eliminate) the rabbit problem. Has zero effect on birds.

Several years ago, we had a very productive cherry tree (and I love cherry pie); but the birds were getting to the cherries before we did. My grandmother suggested placing aluminum pie pans in the tree to scare the birds. Result: we had the best groomed birds in the neighborhood! Birds used the pie pans as mirrors! Was really funny to watch the cardinals groom themselves. We ended up buying cherries!

Best deterrent is a 15 year-old and a BB gun! Or just put up with the birds!

Jon.

Does anyone know if the ultrasonic pest repellers (usually used for Mice etc.) will work on birds.

I see some people/places trying to sell them for repelling Birds, but sellers are not always a trustworthy source of information.

Again ...yes, a fake owl can work but not always 100 percent. If one really cares just search the darn subject, and weed out the people trying to sell a product !!

"There's no need to doubt that putting a fake owl in your yard will deter birds because a study has confirmed it. The study was conducted at Linfield College in Oregon, and it concluded that fake owls were effective bird deterrents but only for a limited time. The strategy works because owls are natural predators of songbirds. Cornell University also reports that plastic owls deter birds – specifically woodpeckers – but that deterrence lasts for only a few day."

I have done MANY searches. Some say some things work and others say the exact same thing does not work.

There are a lot of bogus reviews and sellers online.

I expect people here on PY to provide more reliable information than the average person/business on the internet and that is why I asked the question here in the first place.
