Car chase night on the TCM channel
The Seven Ups is on right now, followed by The French Connection and then Bullitt. We all know about Bullitt, but the first two feature Pontiacs in the car chases.

Besides those three, and maybe The Blues Brothers, what other good car chase movies are out there?

'Short Time' from about 1988 with Dabney Coleman. Absolutely EPIC car chase that destroys his Dodge DIplomat.....and it goes on and on, too. Probably on youtube.........

I always thought the chase scene in The Driver was done pretty well. With the exception that no half-ton pick-up with a 3-on-the-tree would be able to stay with a '76 Trans Am with an automatic. It's another one that has an uncanny number of Pontiacs in the background. I saw it at the drive-in when it was new.
I also saw Mad Max at the drive-in. Hard to tell whether that had a better chase scene than The Road Warrior. One great car chase that isn't in the link that Forrest posted, and usually gets over looked in such lists: To Live and Die in L.A. They do some crazy sh!t in that one that you don't see in other car chase scenes. |

Not a car chase scene in the purest sense, but I have always loved the scene in the Blues Brothers where Jake and Elwood are in the old Dodge 440 under the L-train and smoking along, literally, at a high rate of speed trying to beat the cops to Cook County Courthouse. No trick photography and a very dangerous stunt. I heard that the stunt drivers reached speeds near 130 in that scene.

To Live and Die in LA had a pretty good car chase sequence.

Vanishing Point is almost a continuous car chase. Gotta like 440+6 Challengers though.
