hi guys, have any of you put a alum radiator in your 2nd gen? im looking for a direct fit so I can use my shroud and mounts. most of the ones I,ve looked at have to us electric fans. the griffen is wayyyy pricey. I can recore my oem rad but its 475.00 minimum. so let me know whats worked for you. thanks, BLUE TA

I installed a Cold Case in my 79 TA a couple months ago. I was having some overheating on the highway, 70 mph with a/c on in 90* weather, and the Cold Case cured it with no other changes. Great quality, polished, and fits like original. And reasonably priced. The tanks are thicker than the original radiator, like a 4 core radiator. So the cutouts in the original rubber mounting cushions are not wide enough. So you can either trim out your original cushions, or buy new 4 core radiator cushions. I bought new 4 core cushions. I'm using the original fan shroud and clutch fan, and everything fits perfectly. So, I highly recommend the Cold Case. I got it at Summit, since it was local to me. Good price and free shipping. I put a Griffin in my 70 Formula looong before the Cold Case stuff hit the scene.

We have since experimented with a Cold Case in another car and I highly recommend them. Fit and finish is excellent, fin count is tight, and the core tubes are 1.25". Cools a 571ci Pontiac no problem in the AZ heat. Hard to beat for the price.

Use your stock shroud and clutch fan with the cold case radiator and it will cool great.

I use the 28” Griffin. My original radiator sprung a leak so I got the Griffin we used on my stock car. That along with the big fan, a shroud and aluminum water pump, caused the temps to go down so far I had to put a 195 thermostat to get the engine over 160 degrees.

I recently installed the Frostbite sold by Holley in my 64 catalina. Fits good inside the stock shroud. Using the stock mechanical fan with a new clutch. It would get up to 210+ after extended driving. I haven’t seen it get past 180 after changing the radiator.

I put a Coldcase in my 68. It works marginally better than the 4 row copper/brass I had. It's mounting brackets moved the rad about 3/8 inch closer to the engine. This caused the fan to be fully inside the shroud, which, I have read here, affects cooling. 180 stat, 2600 rpm 60 mph runs at 175-180. Getting on it will still stay at 180. Old rad would climb to 195-200. After a run down the highway sitting in my driveway would climb to 210, same as old rad, where I shut it down. I'm hoping it will get better when I dial in the tune a wee bit better.

Do you have a spacer behind the fan? It would work better with the tips outside the shroud.

Installed a Rodney Red aluminum radiator in my 75 T/A in 2007 and have had great success. Three Hot Rod Power Tours and no overheating problems.

Oem spacer. The plan is to install a shorter spacer. Had to do carb work first.
