Can ya help a guy out, info needed,
So years ago I purchased a 69 FB from a friend a good solid parts and pieces car, so yesterday I had some time and decoded it, turns out it is a stripped almost no option s car, radio delete, no gauges, no lighter etc, it was manual brake/ steering, has buckets but no console, auto on the column, car was a special order Windward blue, VIN says it was a 6 cyl. car, so my question is, were ALL the 69 FB's the OHC 6 or was there a base/base chevy OHV six, I was going to 400/400 the car, but maybe a cammer sprint six would be just as cool???
Any complete HO Sprints around?? Did they come with auto's? Educate me,,, Thx for any info. Last edited by Transporter; 12-08-2019 at 02:09 PM. |

OHC 6 was std engine (250 1bbl), Sprint 6, 350-2bbl, 350 HO, & the four 400 4bbl engines were all optional. No Chevy 6 cyl's, 2 of the rusty Sprint6 '69 Birds I've parted had T400's.
Converting a 6cyl to Pontiac V8, you will need correct engine mount brackets as well as engine accessory brackets, engine harness, etc. Have all in stock but new wiring harness, which typ source new through a local source from American Autowire.

That's a tiny number of cars for GM.

The math is wrong on the automatic column.
Should be Grand Total of 482 automatics and Grand Total of all Sprints = 1979

I don't know, didnt have a motor, and I didn't order a PHS, I really doubt it was a Sprint as the seemingly has only 2 options, auto and Windward blue paint.

Transporter, it probably was a base 1bbl OHC-6 Bird, but the lack of options does not mean it wasn't a Sprint, my 69 Sprint FB came with only Power Steering, an in Dash Clock, AM Mono one speaker radio, and Posi. If it still has the original rocker trim and Leaf Springs, a Quick check is 3 or 4 leafs in the rear springs, 3 are base 1bbl, 4 leafs are a Sprint, and does it have the holes in the rocker trim for the "Sprint" emblems? There are some other tells like a basic in dash Gauge Package with Oil Pressure & Engine Temp Gauges, and quicker ratio steering. But I usually could tell by the Leaf Springs.

But that doesn't mean I have made up my mind on a motor, I have plenty of Pontiac V8 cars, and a couple of Slant 4 Tempests, maybe kinda neat to add an OHC Six????? Would still be a fairly low production number car, not that it means that much other than you may not see another one at the car show?

FWIW...
The 4's and 6's work well together
