Installing trunk lid letters?
The trunk lid that came with my 68 is from a 69, so of course does not have the factory holes for mounting the PONTIAC letters.
I have a template from a 68 lid marking the hole locations, but prefer not to start drilling if I can avoid it. Has anyone tried buzzing off the pegs on backside of letters and gluing them on? If yes, what did you use? I have some 3M 2 part clear seam sealer i thought might work well, assuming I can keep the stuff from oozing out the edges when pressed in place. That will raise the letters enough to be very noticable. The only good way is the proper way.

Hey, before you go ahead and drill the holes, be aware that one of the letters (I think it was the "I") had pegs that weren't a good match for the holes that were originally drilled in OEM trunk lids. The letter comes out tilted a bit. I'm not sure if that occurred only on some factory lids or all of them. I have two of them and both lids have that issue. If you do decide to drill the holes, you might want to correct the placement of the holes for that letter before you start drilling.

Thanks for the note. Another Pontiac guy mentioned that one of the letters came tilted from the factory. Was your factory letter tilted?

I think all of mine have the tilted letter. I do not remember if it was the 'I' or a different letter. I would have to look when the weather is a bit nicer.

I just confirmed with our friend that the "T" is normally tilted a little.

Got'r done... the letter pegs were not long enough for the retaining nuts after going through both layers of trunk skin. Instead of trying to cut or drill through the under layer (like factory), I mixed up some epoxy and coated the positioning pegs. I figured this would also seal up the pilot holes to prevent water seeping in. A bit of screwing around, but it worked well!
