Does anyone know if 65/66 4-speed linkages are the same, or similar??? Dennis |

That is surprising, I wouldn't have guessed that.

Early Firebird & '69 Camaro with factory Hurst shifter also mounted very low, but even further back in relation to back of Muncie 4spd tail housing.

1966 Pontiac Big car Muncie long tail-shaft 4 speed hurst linkage
These photos are from the year 2002 so needless to say all of these parts are long gone.
This was way back when I used to go to at least 8 or 10 big swap meets per summer. One summer I decided to try and collect up the rods to go with a Pontiac factory Hurst shifter that I had. (1965-66 Big car shifter, w/ bucket seats.) As much of the GM linkage that I could ever find: and this was after a year & a 1/2 worth of time searching.

If all else fails, it doesn't look like it would be hard to reproduce the B body rods. Start with some A/F body rods and weld in a section, bend to shape, beadblast, and paint/plate as required. Nobody would know the difference.

i have a complete 66 4 speed car thats too ruff to restore...has 3.42 posi..its bench seat car, but its untouched and literally a little old lady car...in Kansas City
i started to dig it out and put it on ebay....but id rather see it go to a member...if it works for ya.. shouldnt be hard to figure the rods out with a parts manual...some where some how, i remember the only thing diff is the chrome lever..i always understood the mech and rods are the same...

'67-68 manual linkages setup is different than the '65-66 setup. As someone who had an A-body shifter setup on a '67-68 car, it will bind and jam regularly on you in the 2-3 shift and leave you stuck in traffic between gears if you're without tools so definitely make an effort to find the correct linkages. They are out there, I know of a half dozen sets that guys are absolutely refusing to part with on the "just in case" front... I do believe that someone with the right know-how could fabricate the parts up as described (I am not that someone sadly...).
That said, this thread is the coolest thread on this site and I keep coming back to it. I can't wait to see it back in action and driving. |

Dan got the carpet trimmed and fitted and the bench seat tracks test fitted too.

Good news to report...Dan had the linkages and levers after all...misplaced in a different box. So, the trans and shifter are getting ready to be installed tomorrow in the upcoming days.

Good news.
Is the transmission bare aluminum, or has it been painted or clear coated? |

curious on the shifter...looks like 65-6 a-body bench...using it because of the looks? it is a better looking shifter than the 67-8 b-body IMO
