10” Rim Stock 64 GTO
Good evening. Anyone have any luck or experience with a 10” Rim & M/T 275 Pro under a stock 64-67 A-Body? What moods needed and offset ext?
Thank you |

I can't offer up an offset for you, but most stock 64-65 A Bodies that I am familiar with (can't offer up much on the 66-67 A Body) came with 14x6 wheels with a 4.25 back-spacing with a 5x4 3/4 bolt pattern. Some here have increased the back-spacing to 4.75 (an additional 1/2) and went with a 15x7 or 15x8 wheel and a 255 size tire fit safely. Maybe some others here can chime in? I 'think' to clear most aftermarket, more than stock type disc brake calipers you'll need an offset of 3.5", but do not quote me on that. |

I have not been able to get a 10" under my 66. Tried a few. Currently running a 15x8 with a 4.5 backspace with a early width housing. I could use a 5" backspace but most aftermarket wheels I like jump from 4.5 to 5.5

My '65 I fit a 275-60-15 in an 8" Trans Am Turbo wheel that is 4.5 back space and the original rear end. The Zero offset Cragars I have on the 64 Impala hit on the outside of the wheel well/fender lip.

Centerline in the past offered a 15×8 1/2 with a 4 7/8 backspace that might help if it's still available.

They closed up shop a few years ago and I had a deposit on a set of wheels. They have reopened ( I think the name was bought out) and the only "race" type wheels they offer are the Autodrag and Convo Pro. But do have a 15x8.5 w/ 4.75 back space.

I currently have a 15x8 as well. Can’t remember off set off hand but sidewalls rub inter fender well. I have measured a few times and think it could be done but haven’t come across any donor wheels to try. 15x8 Corvette Rally’s fit well years ago but to heavy and outgrew the look.

I run a 275/60/15 on a 8" rim and it's a snug fit up in the wheel well, but doesn't rub anywhere. I'm not so sure you can go much wider either.

We run 10" rims on our 65. The back spacing is either 4.75 or 5, sorry I can't remember which

My 65 I run 8 inch rim with 5.5 backspace with 28 x 9.0 slick. perfect fit. Problem with our 64-65 cars is that they were pre wide track. We are one inch narrower than the 66-72 A bodies. I tried a set of Hoosier 10.5 quick times on the 8 inch rims with the 5.5 backspacing and it rubbed lightly on the frame rails and was right at the lip of the wheel well. I wasn t to comfortable with that and went with the 9 inch slick from there. Sounds like mini tub time possibly.

Thinking that for every inch the rim grows, the section width increases a half inch on the 15" rims around 8" wide. So going from an 8" to 10" rim the tire width is going to go from about 11" to 12". On my '67 after trimming the fender lip and tapping in any areas where the inner fender protrudes out, I have exactly 12" of clear space. Which means that just the normal movement of the tire would have it rubbing constantly with a 10" rim. I have about a 1/2" each side of the tire with the 275/60R15's on an 8" rim with 5.25" backspace.
I ran a 28x10.5 slick which was 12" wide mounted up, and I could push it up into the wheel well and it would stick. That was past what the suspension would compress to, but it does show that things got a little narrower at the top of the wheel well.

That is what I saw using the 275-60-15 on my 65 real tight both sides. My 64 Impala is even tighter just needed a different offset.

I have a 65 with the 68-72 rear end width. I have a 275/65/15 drag radial on it with plenty of room. Weld Wheels 15x8 with 5.5 inches of backspace.
