KRE High Port Heads, Bolt Holes For Accessories, Help Appreciated
Ok so you've seen my thread on High Ports and the Torker 2 not being a true a bolt on, just got off the phone with the shop and I've got another High Port bolt on issue....
The bolt holes for the alternator and power steering arm do not line up with the factory brackets? Is there a custom bracket kit that takes care of this? I'm sure there is but I'm fresh off calling KRE and having to leave a message. What really gets me is why I wasn't told by Jeff after ordering $7700 in just parts about things like the water crossover and this. I would've just bought them both at the time so it's not like after $7700 I'm like, nope another $300 total etc is too much I'll cancel everything. That's one reason why I bought everything from one trusted shop, so there's no holes to fall into and delay my build. Thanks and thank the internet lords for forums and experienced car enthusiasts. Hahaha Mike

Called 3x more spaced out, answering machine.
If there's a bracket that the alt and power steering reservoir bolt too that info would be great.

As of now, here's all I've found to solve both problems.
Tin Indian had an alternator kit but not for power steering. $135 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Billet-Alum....m46890.l49286 Problem with the above, is it's for the 4.5" water pump. March Pulleys = $735 https://marchperformance.com/pontiac...mid-mount.html Needs a 10si alternator, which I bought a 12si months ago so that's great. I searched the forum and saw nothing mentioned about High Ports and street cars, am I missing something?

I think Steve runs high ports on his bird (street car) but not certain. I'll shoot him an email and ask, maybe he'll chime in.

I had to make my own alternator bracket. The head is missing the center bolt because of the coolant jacket. Alt is flipped to get as short as belt as possible, no ps ,and meziere wp. Could easily flip it up and run a bracket off the timing cover. I made a bracket not shown that mounts to fuel pump holes in cover and holds a slider type arm to make adjustments on the belt.

We're going to customize the factory bracket and use the open hole on the lower left corner of the head to attach to the bracket.
If this doesn't work I'll have to adapt a kit like the one on ebay I attached the link for, no need for factory head bolt holes. But these heads don't cost $3200, way way more after all the customization. Big error on my end and I'm a bit bitter that once again, wasn't given all the facts yet all 100% of my money is good and cleared on day 1.

The factory late model c bracket is what I used for the alt. The power steering would also work with no back tensioner bolt just the one in the c bracket. I have no idea of the age of my high ports bought them used.

I ran into this when I switched over to High Ports,I ended up using CVF Racing brackets for the original v-belt setup. They worked great, well engineered, but the intructions were alittle vague.Other than that, a great product.

I still might go CVF system but it's for the 4.5" water pump, if needed I'll switch pumps. It would've been nice to know the options off the website etc earlier than, after they're on the car, find a way out on your own.

I have High Ports on my 65 GTO street car and the 69-70 power steering/alt. setup. It has been a few years since I did this but if I remember correctly I installed a heli-coil in the aluminum alternator/power steering mount for the alternator. Then I used a shorter bolt. Hope this helps.

Are you talking about the long opening that is the far left most bolt hole in the bracket?
That seems like a good idea to have something in the bracket hole that's threaded. We're going to create a way to use the lower left head bolt that's open as the way to keep the bracket support equal from left to right on it vs only 2 bolts on the right side for the head. We'll have something, but this is so not necessary and could've been solved with prior info and even a solution through KRE.

My long middle bolt is actually threaded into a nut thats welded onto that plate. Its actually a pretty long nut they use to put all thread together. I kept losing alot of belts till i came up with that set up i made. The 2 long bolts together really help the flexing of the alternator.

Well the shop made my L bracket idea and it worked out great, they even engine paint matched it so it looks like it's supposed to be like this.
*L bracket that uses the lower left High Port bolt hole *Piece of round aluminum that fits perfectly into the factory bracket opening This will allow you to use your factory alternator/power steering bracket with the high port heads. High Ports don't have the 3rd bolt hole for the middle of the bracket, KRE doesn't say this on the website or on the phone so you're stuck finding you need to customize all this (oh there's intake fun too) on your own. WTH So I'll get a few made up and sell on the board so others don't get screwed time and $ wise like I did having a $125 an hour shop make my 2nd ...High Port "surprise" fix.

Here's the latest update, I hope this helps someone get a heads start or know what you're in for.... 1969 GTO (4" water pump) High Port Heads Torker 2 II Intake Manifold Used factory Alt + Pwr Steering brackets custom modified PROBLEM 1) Factory Alt/Power Steering bracket won't bolt up to the High Port without modification 2) Factory Alternator bracket won't fit with High Port How To Use Factory 69 GTO Brackets for Stock Look 1) Alternator / Power Steering Bracket Use the lower left bolt hole on High Port Use the open hole in the back of the factory alt bracket Use aluminum round, fill hole and make an L bracket to weld them together and support that area to the head. 2) Top Alternator Bracket Chop the bolt hole tab to for into the intake bolt Chop the front lip off too shorten the bracket, weld back on and smooth So hundreds of dollars later we figured out a solution but the Heads aren't bolt on for us street guys. Here's what you'll need.. New round Port headers $800 Torker 2 porting $375 Custom Intake reducer spacers for Torker 2 $200 Elongated bolt holes on Intake $125 Custom Alt Pwr Streering bracket Support $125 Custom Alt Bracket mod $125 Water Crossover $85 Chop Torker 2 water crossover off $60 You can NOT run a factory 11" brake booster, my 9" barely clears with the nice valve covers. Hope this helps

Wow you've had a boat load of issues. These really don't sound like a set of heads suited for a street car for someone that wants to bolt on the factory accessories as intended.
I wonder why they can't simply make these things with accessory holes where they are needed. It's also interesting that I don't recall anyone bringing this to light at all in the past. Maybe should be a sticky. |

There's a water jacket in the heads 3rd bolt hole area needed for the factory bracket.
There are more bracket options if you have the 4.5" water pump on the Alt and Power steering kits to make that easier than those of us with the 4" pump. Tons on Ebay alone. The Torker 2 intake is NOT a bolt on, welding the top flange wasn't acceptable to me, the spacers are the most ideal and best fitting mod. If you or the shop have fab skills, creative etc you can pull it off but not knowing what you're up against from the start is why I'm posting, not real fun or cheap. It can change your mind if you're not willing to do all this.

curious what made you go this route instead of maybe a wide port edelbrock?

Or just the KRE D-Port?
For a race head most aren't concerned with being able to use as stock street head? Same as going from D-port to round port, can't expect to run the dport exhaust with the round port. The RA IV used a bigger intake port for the head, these are much bigger ports, so a stock type Torker 2 would be way small. Generally everything would be different than stock head?

I guess I don't follow that logic on street cars since I work on various brands where you have much more support from the aftermarket.
I can buy AFR heads for my BBC out of the box that flow 370 cfm and all my factory accessories bolt right on. It's really too bad that no one offers a really high flowing cylinder head for the Pontiac street guys that will accept factory accessories. The D-port and round port options are nice from Eddy and Kauffman, but even with the added cost of cnc options you get what.......330-340 cfm?? Really would be nice to see something closer to 400 cfm from a wide port or high port head offered for the guys that are building bigger inch Pontiacs for the street that want to bolt on stock accessories without a bunch of fuss. Least that's the gist I'm getting from this thread. Wish AFR would get on board and make a Pontiac head, I'd be on it. |
