No Start
I am having issue with my 68 GTO. It will start and run as long as you pour gas in carb. First thing I thought was fuel pump, but there is a steady stream of gas coming out of line at carb when cranking. I fell about 18 months ago and broke my hip, so today is first time I tried to start car since I fell. I does not have an internal filter at inlet. I thought maybe an insect nest inside carb, but it has always had an air filter on it. Cliff rebuilt the carb about 6 years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I tried to get on Cliff's forum to see what he thought but I could not .remember my password. Do any of you guys have any ideas? I have not pulled carb yet due to my busted hip , but I am going to try tomorrow. Thanks!

Sounds like the float may be stuck up, preventing fuel entering the carb

thanks, that is what I was thinking. Due to my injury about a year ago, I don't think I can remove carb. There is no one in my area that I trust to work on these Quadrajets..I paid Cliff to work his magic, and I don't want someone screwing up his good work. Can this be dealt with with carb still on car? Thanks, Mike

Stuck float/needle and seat
Try tapping with plastic end of screwdriver on side of carb.
Sounds like fuel evaporated and needle is stuck and not Letting fuel into carb. Also try filling carb thru vent as Fuel may help dissolve and free up needle or float. I always put some seafoam down carb vent when she Goes into storage for winter. Keeps float and needle Lubed up. Good luck. Gerry

Fill the fuel bowl via the vent, as mentioned, then tap on top and on the sides of the carb, including around the fuel inlet. It may seem like it's of little value BUT you'd be surprised how even a car sitting for 18 years responds to the same. Good luck with carb AND hip. Don't remove it if you can avoid it. I'm betting on fuel in vent and tapping to solve your issue. :-)

Drain the old gasoline, disconnect the line to the fuel pump from the tank and put it in a bucket. Get your compressor and with the air sprayer wrap a rag around the tip and put it in the gas tank filler. Blow enough air to get the old fuel to come out. Once its empty run a gallon of fresh gasoline through. Then connect it all up put fresh gas in..
