What years are these cars?
This photo is displayed as being made in 1920. I believe it was made later in the 1930’s era judging by the automobiles shown. I would like to get a more accurate dating of the photo.
Note the truck on the road, the vehicle on the ramp on the creek bank and the vehicles parked in front of the buildings along the railroad. About what year(s) models are some of the vehicles? Thanks! |

None of those vehicles were built after 31 - 32. Left to right, a Victoria coupe, a regular coupe and a sedan. All are squared styles, vertical windshields. Swoopy styling started in 33.

I would say it would depend upon the economic status of the area. Looks to be. coal mining community where older cars would be common.

I'd say early to mid 20s from what I can see.
He's just checking the railroad ties on his way home. Looks like a conductor's hat on his head.

The title of the picture has 1920 in the file name. Do you know if this was a guess, or if the person knew the date?

date of photo?
The picture is an excerpt out of a larger photo titled: “C&O Ry Co-Town of Amherstdale, W.Va.- about year 1920”.
After reviewing some comments, I did some further research and concluded that the photo was likely taken in the late 1920’s-early 1930’s era. This is based on the 4-dr sedan cars which appear to be Model A cars which weren’t produced prior to 1927. These Model A cars have the rounded off roofline at the rear as opposed to the squared-off rear roofline of the Model T cars which stopped production in 1927. It appears that the tips of the Model A rear fenders flare backward and the Model T rear fenders come straight down. Below is an enlarged part of the photo showing the vehicle on the ramp on the creek bank which has the Model A styling. Thanks for all comments. |

Bottom line: "about year 1920" = someone's guess.

The cars parked in front of the depot/hotel whatever it is, are undeniably late 1920's. I would say '28-'30 range. The truck is much earlier probably late teens, early '20s. Surprisingly not all old cars are Model A's! Much like today, the body styles were across the board in that era and one brand looked very similar to the other. I could just about guarantee there are some guys on the AACA forum that can tell you the exact models of all the vehicles in this pic.

Yes I agree with you I replaced my heater core and I have the AC/Heater Box which was extremely tough to get out. Hopefully when you did replace your heater core you left the end fasteners off of the AC/Heater Box (you know the ones that are not accessible unless you take the inner fender out to remove them.) Also I found when I did take my heater core out it was just sitting in there with the retaining bars and screws sitting in the bottom of the box. It was basically a 2 day job for me to do.
