PONT stamping in original trunk pan
I ran across this thread in the body shop section:
https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=854905 Can other 1967 GTO owners check their trunk pans near the spare tire mounting area to see if theirs has this stamping too? My Baltimore built GTO has it plain as day yet I never noticed it before! |

Strange that it was the member's one and only post, and it was not responded to.

Was hoping to get more replies for those of us who are interested in original sheet metal stampings. I heard somewhere that other GM cars had this same stamping. If that is the case maybe the PONT stands for the Pontiac manufacturing plant where various sheet metal panels were made? Anyone know if there was such a plant in Pontiac Michigan that produced sheet metal panels for GM back then? I'm just guessing.

The reason I believe is the floor of the Pontiac GTO is not the same as the Cutlass or Chevelle at the tail light panel. Some companies sell floors that you have to cut at the tail lights to fit.

I checked my trunk pan, GTO built June 1967 in Pontiac, couldn't find any stamp. My car has the original trunk floor. I couldn't tell exactly where it would be from the pictures but I removed the spare and didn't find anything.

I'm sure this will be hard to see with the splatter paint or any paint for that matter.
