I think Lone Star boats were locally made.

They started out in Grand Prairie, Texas but were in Plano for many years. I didn't realize they were bought by Chrysler when they got into the boat business. http://www.fiberglassics.com/library...itle=Lone_Star

Probably him and his wife handled it, people were stronger / tougher back then.

You just drive into the lake and the boat floats off with your wife. Just make sure to release the transom straps and bow eye beforehand otherwise she will be joining you in the murky depths

If there was only a way to hook the trailer to the back of the car....

Seems it would have been a lot easier to hook the boat to the rear of the camper, and run them as doubles. I've pulled my camper up to Norwalk with the pit vehicle hooked on a trailer to the camper before. Wife was driving the GTO with the enclosed 10X6 T shirt trailer behind me.......
He likely used the winch on the trailer to pull the trailer up a pair of planks onto the roof of the car. After pulling the boat onto the trailer, and tying the boat down to the trailer, the winch would make perfect sense to use, the planks could be stored in the camper. People were a lot more resourceful 50-60 years ago. Common sense, was still common. You should see the looks I get using my 05 GTO to pull car dolly with a car on it. Even just pulling the enclosed trailer behind my GTO, I get comments from people. You don't have to have a truck just to pull a trailer, but nowadays everyone seems to think you do. When I was young, there was a guy that lived in my neighborhood In Erie PA, that had a fifth wheel attached to the roof of his 67 ford country squire wagon, and hauled a camper with it. Where there's a will, there's a way...... There's always this guy too: I wouldn't call this common sense, more wishful thinking than anything. That would be downright scary at any speed over 10 MPH. He must have looked at a semi rig, and said sure I can pull a big trailer with my S 10 just like the big rig guys do......... If he turned the thing, the front corners of the trailer would hit the roof of the S 10. |

One of my favorites.
The engine from the car was transferred to dragster to race and then back to the car for the trip home.
