Cheetah SCS probably the smoothest shifter I have ever used.

Default reverse pattern shiftier

I use a reverse pattern shiftier because it feels more natural shifting from front to rear 1-2-3 when accelerating hard during a pass at the track. Inertia (I think that is the correct term) will normally force your body from front to rear...

I like my standard pattern manual valve body.

Acceleration is pushing me back into the seat, so I am already braced against the seat back as I am pushing the shifter forward. I've had guys with a reverse pattern tell me that they have accidentally pulled the shifter into the next gear as a result of the acceleration.

Mine is the production shifter, which is a ratcheting type (push at an angle and it locks in that gear; release and it springs back to center allowing the next shift).

That means, too, that it already has the necessary safety features like neutral lock out, neutral start switch, etc.

Don't understand the need to shift to neutral at the end of the run since most trans brake cars freewheel in all forward gears. The problem referred to above is while there is no engine braking you would be doing nasty things to the 2nd or 1st gear drums spinning to infinity and beyond if selected at speed.

My GTO had the reverse pattern trans brake and my son's Firebird had no trans brake and standard pattern - and both had the same style ratchet shifter. After we both screwed up gear changes in each other's cars at the track we agreed to stay out of the other's car. Later on we updated his Firebird to a trans brake and after a short learning curve he never made the wrong shift and we could swap cars again if we felt like it. The other thing is you probably don't want either one of us racing your car with a ratchet shifter and forward pattern.

There is a guy on YB that bought one. He took it all apart, put better bushings in and basically "blueprinted" it. He said it was night / day difference.
