Wiper blades- what are you guys using?
I rarely drive my old cars in the rain, but seeing as how I drive them, not just look at them, I have got caught in rain before.
I remember about 10 years ago when I went looking for a set for my GTO, I could no longer find refills. What I did find was a set of “classic car” blades at the parts store. Instead of the nice polished stainless steel arm, they were painted silver, and looked horrible. BUT I was able to use the blades out of those to use in my original GTO stainless arms. Now I’m in the same boat with my ‘63 LeMans. Problem is the auto parts store doesn’t even stock those fake classic blades anymore. So where do you get blades to put in your old arms these days? Everything my auto parts store stocks, the blades are narrower than the old arms?

Black ones. Lol. But really, I know the pain. I can't seem to find anything that fits under my 78 hood anymore. They all hang up. So I have to lift hood at hinges I. The back so they don't gouge the back of the hood.

I believe that the Trico 47-700 series refills will work:

The old Anco refill number for my 77 TA is 11-18, the 11 denotes a refill part, the 18 is the length, obviously. Rock auto had some, some time back:. I still need to get some. I’m sure all the 70-81 F bodies take same wiper.
I tried another blade assy on my car, some time back. It did not fit under the hood space, either. Glad I kept my original blade frames.

For a second Gen Camaro or Firebird this is the issue. And now at most of the local parts stores they do not carry refills just an entire arm.

It's what I've been using on my classics for decades, and we daily drive them. When it's time for refills I don't even bother going to the auto parts stores, they don't have much of anything these days accept cheap black 22" wiper arms for new cars, and most of them don't even accept refills anymore. Just go to NPD, or Ames, or Ground UP, or Classic Industries, they all sell correct stainless arms and the refills for them. |

Thanks guys. Yeah,Ames had the blades and wiper arms, but the blade holders were those silver painted ones I don’t like. I did find stainless on the NPD website though, even though they are listed in the 64-72 GTO section. I figured they will fit the ‘63 arms. If not I’ll use them on the ‘71 GTO.
I never bought from NPD, so didn’t even think of it. Thanks formulajones and others

The cheap yellow box blades sold at Autozone can be removed from the frame and cut to fit. That's what I did to my 64 Chevy Truck.

I was considering that, BUT all the blades at my local auto parts store are about half as wide as the original. Id have to bend the hell out of the tabs on the arms to get them to stay in.

Parts stores don't want to stock "refills". They may be available to order.
Every wiper blade/refill I've bought in the last ten years (or more) has been made from self-destructing cheap Communist Chinese rubber. They're shot in four to six months, unusable in twelve. God bless Rain-X. |

I forgot I started this thread, and was doing a search for wiper blade refills and saw my own thread! Ah, old age.
Geez, I just spent $175 for blades/arms for 3 cars at NPD and Ames. It Ain’t like the old days.

Still have a few Original GM refills I got when I was woking at the Pontiac Buick GMC store. Guess they are like GOLD now, LOL.
Will have to dig them out and possibly sell off a few. Will post on this site when I get time. At the time I got them, woodstock had over 1000 but have heard they are out now. Not sure where they got sold to but somebody got them. Guess I should have bought more.

I use Rainex washer fluid in ALL of our vehicles. It's a life saver. I use old school Rainex on the old vehicles. One problem with Rainex, you can't use dial-in marker on your windshield. It'll just bead up.

Not sure if 64 is the same as 66 but GM shows the refills available for under $9. 03819074 refills come in package of 2
