1970 Firebird Rear Deluxe Seat Belts
Hi Guys,
My car is missing the rear seat belts, so I am looking out for those. But I have no idea what set up I need, for example, is there retractable belts in the rear like the front? It seems the buckles are chrome verse the black since its a deluxe interior. Anyone have any pictures they can share, so I know what I'm looking for please? And last question, does the inside belt move around? Meaning, does the bolt bottom out so that the buckle can mover around freely like the front? Thanks for any help. |

The rear belts are strap belts, only the front bucket seat lap belts have retractors.
Deluxe interior and deluxe seatbelts were separate options, ordering a deluxe interior did not get you the deluxe seatbelts, those had to be ordered separately. Yes, the bolts allow the belts to move around. Attached are pictures of a set of deluxe seatbelts taken from a 1970 Firebird. Welcome to the boards. Thank you for those pictures! They match what I have in the front, so at least that's right. Now just finding them is the problem.
Do you know if the inboard ones swivel on the bolt, or are they locked down when the bolt is tighten? |

The inboard females bolt to the hump. As I recall they don't move and the bolt is threaded to the head. This is off memory on the 70's that I have had.

You can get an 'original style' 3-point for the rear from Morris with GM chrome buckles. But they are limited as no longer have license to use logo, or ever did. It copies the original 3-point rear belt option but improved with retractor on parcel tray. They also have the non-retractor version lap belt only if req.

1970 Manual shows anchor bolts for inners uses the shouldered bolts, often would uses nylon bushes as crush sleeves, not shown, so movement could occur but stay upright at any angle.

Direct link for 3-point rears. Already out of GM emblems, may be some stockists out there still with some.

Great information. And thanks for the size break down, that's very helpful.
@Ramairnacho, you got a pic of the tag on those belts by chance? |

Would the deluxe seatbelts option appear on the PHS?

Belts-Custom on the invoice copy is same as deluxe belts in other Pontiac literature. From '66 up that signifies the brushed style buckles.
-The Model number indicates the exact model of vehicle the belt originally was built for. -Even owning half a half dozen original dated Pontiac Master Parts books printed from late '69 til 81, seat belts are not that easy to research. -Male & female seatbelt ends changed over the years, so did verions of the standard belts. -As the years rolled on into the 70's, there began to be more body style specific front retractor assemblies. Upon the intro of mid 72 GM A, F & F -body's, all had a pair of rear seat belt retractors, & there was no interchangeability of the retractors between the body styles. Typically, missing a set of rear seatbelts & desiring to match the front belts, what one needs to do is find the same style (std or dlx) & vendor belts in order to match. For '71 models the rear deluxe belts were built with smaller sized buckles & matching male ends. This style of rear deluxe belts rolled over for use on early '72 models. Having researched late 72 GM seatbelt usage for years, have yet to find any evidence that deluxe belts were offered for late 72 model F-bodys,
