Beautiful car! Seems to sit a little bit low, especially in front.

I bid on the car for awhile but based on the quality of work and missing pieces I backed out in the low $100's. Most disturbing to me was the body issues, rear quarters poorly replaced (missing the vent cut outs in the door jam), reproduction hood with wrong bracing for a '69-'70 car, '72 deck lid, and aftermarket cowl support. Couple these issues with the cheap reproduction brake master cylinder, brake booster, missing TCS switch/temp sending unit with wiring, missing cowl seal, cheap repo exhaust splitters, and the list goes on....
When I see a car of this rarity and desirability done so poorly it makes me wonder what I don't see.... I hope the buyer invests the time and money to correct the car. Or if not just drive the wheels off of it... |

my sentiments exactly..... super rare car but less than an amateur attempt with the details, wouldn't take much to get it to the next level.

I think calling this restoration "Less than amateur" is pretty harsh. That car is just beautiful. Like anything, you can always do more, and more...

I don't think I've ever seen the wheel house splash guards stapled to the inside like that ... is that the way it was done in 1970?
Also missing a bolt in the rear valance

I too don't agree with some of the comments posted here. It seems envy and jealousy are everywhere. It is a very nice car, and someone put a lot of money into it. Granted, there are some issues with this car, which you can find in most restorations, but overall, a nice ride.

I think what Gordon meant is that the specific 1970 GTO knowledge of the restorer was seriously lacking. That is a different issue than a restorer who doesn’t have good general restoration skills. The car is beautifully done but they didn’t know much about these specific cars are simply chose not to sweat those kind of details.

Sounds like the same old bull**** to me. I have never restored a car- but can do one better than that. Mine has been sitting for 20 years- but when I get to it- it will be the best one ever done. Give me a break- just say I couldn’t afford that car and get it over with! A lot of armchair restorers on here- I guess some things never change!

Actually a lot of the guys who pointed out the shortcomings in this thread have carefully restored many Judges and were simply pointing out the shame that such a high value car was restored with many obvious errors. This kind of conversation is what has improved the quality of restorations and their accuracy which is the entire point of restoration.

I’m beating a dead horse here I’m sure but many won’t get into a Pontiac from Other brands for this reason . Maybe those aren’t the people everyone wants in our hobby. But it’s supply and demand and without demand we have very un-valuable cars . I’m really NOT. A PC guy at all but I just think bashing a car when someone just bought it isn’t welcoming. Do what you want but I think maybe doing it in a little different way might be better. Maybe say it like this- that’s a really great car, I think a lot of people would love it but there’s a few things that could be done differently ti see it worth even more. Think there’s a book out there called how to win friends and influence people that’s helpful. However although I wish I did , I don’t always adhere to this myself so do as you wish .
