With a hyd roller 2 quarts of whatever good oil you’d run would be fine

From their website...
"Royal Purple lubricants are fully compatible with mineral or synthetic oils. No special procedures are necessary when switching to Royal Purple. We recommend against intentionally creating a mixture of different brands or product lines of engine oils." .

If you are breaking in a flat tappet cam, NO. Regular oil has too many detergents that will wipe the break in lube off the cam and lifters and hold it in suspension. Spring for the extra 2 quarts and play it safe.

Added 1 qt of vr1 racing oil ,it was just enough.I don't understand why anyone would want to add synthetic oil to a break in oil, that sounds like a big no no for ring seating
