I just noticed that the partial vin starts with a “1” - that’s quite funny.

I've seen some with a '1' first digit. Usually a plant that has chevy vehicles also in it.

One of my '70 TAs was built at the Van Nuys plant, and is only ~30 units away from a VIN standpoint from the one on BaT, so possibly even built the same day. It's VIN stampings start with 10Lxxxxxx as well. So maybe the 1 was stuck in the first position of the gang stamp that day at Van Nuys!
As others have noted, it wasn't that rare of an occurrence.

The engine stamp looks EXACTLY like the one on my '72 T/A. One side of the gang stamp goes much deeper than the other side.
Same here, my April '71 Van Nuys Formula does too -- specifically, the lower parts of the digits are a lot fainter than the upper halves of them. Just like on this car.

To you Van Nuys owners -
Are yours also stamped upside down like the Blue 70 on BaT ? I have no experience with early 2nd Gen Van Nuys cars at all. But we see a lot of non-standard stampings on Fremont California GTO's So its not too surprising to see more goofy stuff from another California plant. |

for a bit there, I thought it was going to stall out at 101 - which is still a good deal of money for a car that twenty to thirty years ago could have been had for a whisp of the current value;
But I am glad to see the gap between 71/72 and 70 TA's diminishing; Not too long ago, the 71/72 cars were demanding a major premium over 1970's. I am hoping that those days are over.

I'm so shocked at the number I don't know what to think about it,.....yet.
Did my nearly identical '70 just become worth more? Guess it doesn't matter since I'm not selling it anyways. |

I should've kept the blue '70 that I sold a couple years ago...
The one I have now isn't nearly as nice as the one I had.

I have a few pics of Norwood engine VIN's that face either direction. So don't think there was a "right" way to stamp them. HOWEVER,.... I'll attach a pic of a '70 engine that has no Pontiac VIN at all, but got hit with a total Camaro VIN. Guess some of them couldn't tell a blue engine from an orange one! |
