1971 8.2 axle seals
I replaced my 1971 axle seals and bearings. Before slipping on the seal on I greased the inside of the lip seal and press the bearing/collar.
My question is does the outside of the seal rubber surface need to be lubed or dry before it gets drawn into the housing by the flange bolts? Seams a thing film would'nt cause a leak |

During assembly, I've always gave the axle seals a quick finger wipe with a little Mystik JT-6. On maintenance of a rear axle, a quick wipe with a little 80/90 will work.
