Shock absorber question.
The only direct fit for the rear shock on a 1961 or 1962 Tempest that I have found is a rare parts item from NAPA. The price. of the NAPA shock is $302.99 plus tax. I did get the shock specifications from the NAPA web site. Summit Racing lists a Monroe shock that has virtually the same specifications except the mounts are switched top to bottom. Is it possible to swap their positions? If It is possible, it will save $250.00 for the shock replacement.

This is the shock I am talking about. Just need to swap the mount system from top to bottom, and bottom to top.

I wonder if it's possible to press the sleeve bushing out of the 'female' end and do the same to the double ended eyelet.
May be easier than trying to cut and weld the two ends. |

They can be pressed out, I’ve done it, to replace the bushings.
You will run the risk of the T-bar end getting boogered up though. If the bushing gets clobbered replacements are out there, in rubber, poly, and who knows what else.

Old gripe: How hard is it to sell a rebuild-able or tunable shock, now really.

Call Mark at A-1 Shock in Colorado. He may have what you need or be able to rebuild your originals.

I can see no reason to overthink this. Switch bushings and install them.

Turning the shock upside down won’t correctly.
