looking for a Torrent GXP
My "winter" vehicle, a 2008 Grand Prix, is starting to show it's age especially underneath and of course I need a Pontiac to replace it. I have narrowed down my search to a Torrent GXP. I have seen a few across the country but nothing close enough to home to go and check out. Anybody seeing anything in their area? I realize I have a pretty narrow search criteria and I'm also picky on color. No white, black or red. I called a local GM dealership today because one showed up on Buysellsearch there. The salesman I talked to had no idea what I was talking about but told me that he has a '13 Impala which is basically the same vehicle.
My search continues.

That one has come up on a couple of searches. Wish it was a little closer. I've tried to contact the seller with no success yet. Otherwise that is just what I'm looking for.
Thanks

Looks like only 5 or 6 in the country on Autotrader. That's searching from my location all over the country. Just a FYI about those cars. The engines have head gasket issues and HVAC issues. |

not sure the 3.6L is an engine I would want.

I always thought the Torrent GXP was a good looking "SUV". The 3.6 24 valve V6 made 264 hp, if I remember correctly. I drove a new we had at work, and it was pretty responsive. The early version had timing chain problems due to the long oil change intervals. Synthetic oil would probably help the longevity of them. I have a 2018 Colorado and that version, LGZ, is fantastic. This is the third version of the 3.6 engine.

I've had a 3.6 in a 2008 Vue and I have a 3.0 in a 2010 Equinox with 170K miles. I had used Mobil 1 forever and I changed the oil around every 6k miles. That was probably a mistake but didn't know at the time the Direct Inject engines really need to have their oil changed more than that, probably around 4K miles and that's what I'm doing now. I have switched to Pennzoil Platinum as well.

How rare is a Torrent GXP?
What years were they built and what were production #'s? What was the RPO option content in GXP option?

FWIW, one of my daily drivers is a 2005 Buick Rendezvous 3.6 AWD. She is at 235K and never caused me a lick of trouble and no oil leaks (now watch, next week it will probably puke it's guts out on the roadway). Still winds up like it's new. Since day 1 I've used Quaker State SUV synthetic / conventional blend from our local oil change place. Also have a 2018 Colorado 3.6 like jerry455, again great engine & vehicle.

I have no experience with the 3.6L. i'm just refrencing what the Car Wizard has said. it could be he was refrencing the earlier designs of this engine.

we sold our torrent a couple years ago. gxp as well. best little suv we ever had. replaced our 2005 grand prix. that torrent moved out pretty well. Loved our grand prix as well but michigan winters dictated selling them both. before they became beaters with heaters.

Yeah, I'm a Grand Prix man myself. Got an 05 base model, 02 GTP sedan and a 97 GTP coupe but they got flooded here near Houston a few months ago! Then bought me a G6 gt and was wholly unimpressed and found a trade with the Torrent GXP! Sweet trade! 😆
