64 GTO 3 speed stick in CA at $10K BIN. Not a fan of the color, painted bumpers and the choice of wheels, but a nice car. The long shifter boot is something I see a lot of... looks odd.

This is what happens when a car falls into the wrong hands.

Yet another real GTO convertible morphed into a Judge clone with a Buick sticker on the air cleaner. 4-speed car, I wonder what its original colors were? $68.5K in Michigan

Something looked familiar about the wording of the ad, horrible taste in exterior and interior colors, that Toyota Tacoma shift boot, etc., and I realized that the same seller is running the auction for that horrible orange and gray '66 LeMans on the previous page. A gold rattle canned breather?

Agreed... My opinion is just that, my opinion. Taste is subjective.. Obviously, the guy did that to those cars loves the result!
That orange '66 looks like a solid car. Used to be Mariner Turquoise as I recall. Love to see what it looked like before the Krylon attack.

1969 saw several changes for Firebird sound systems. As with all Pontiac's there was nothing standard. You could order an AM, AM/FM mono or an AM/FM stereo radio, and you could order an 8 track with any of those radios (but not without a radio).

Unlike 68 the radios and the 8 track were now Pontiac rather than chevy units. However, the speaker setups were still chevy spec rather than Pontiac. The radios differ from other Pontiac models in terms of the length of the pushbuttons and the use of specific unlabeled black knob bezels. If you had either mono radio you'd get a single dash mounted speaker. However, if you had a stereo radio and/or an 8 track player you'd get a four speaker set up (unlike other Pontiac models where you'd get either two or three speakers with stereo and/or 8 track). With the four speaker set up they'd tape a black piece of cardboard to the underside of the dash grill (same as they did for a car without a radio). The kick panels would each receive a small chevy spec speaker and the package tray or top well would receive two 6x9 speakers. Unlike the setup in a chevy where you could adjust the speakers individually the Firebird balance control had the left front and right rear two tied together so you had diagonal speaker control. Last tidbit is that if you had a mono radio and 8 track the 8 track balance control was used for radio and 8 track speaker balancing but if you had a stereo radio and 8 track they each control speaker balance independently.

Also unlike 68 the multiplex unit was not mounted under the dash with separate controls and was no longer offered separately as an upgrade to the FM mono radio. In it's place the stereo radio would include a much smaller multiplex that mounted above the glovebox insert and was controlled by the radio knobs and bezels.

Lastly a new option for 69 was a power antenna, replacing the previous manual rear antenna option. The unit is a truncated version of the regular Pontiac power antenna with a shorter mast and a significant exposed section of mast even when the antenna was in the lowest position.

As mentioned when you had a non console installation the 8 track mounted on a very small floor bracket (not reproduced) that was unique to the 69 Firebird, the 2 piece U shaped saddle bracket (reproduced) that connected the unit to the floor bracket is the same one used on all other 69 Pontiacs.

When an 8 track is installed on a console equipped firebird it does not use a floor bracket (unlike the GTO or LeMans) and instead bolts to the console itself. The two piece saddle brackets that hold the player unit are unique to this application and is not reproduced. An important note is that unlike all other 8 track harness applications which do not have a ground wire (because the floor bracket provides the ground) the firebird 8 track harness with console applications has a ground wire, the unit will not operate without it since the unit is bolted to a fiberglass console housing.

Lastly unlike the A or B body cars that use a unique U shaped heater duct the Firebird uses the console specific heater duct on all 8 track applications. The exception to this heater duct is cars without 8 track and without console, they use a much smaller duct.

These photos show the dual rear speaker in a convertible application, mounted on the trunk floor and then how they look from the well once the grills are installed. Other pic is of a front rear speaker in the kick panel.

My first two Firebirds, 69 convertibles had AM radio and a single rear speaker in the top well right side, with the ring around the tuner knob being the fader switch. I'm not home to check on this, but I dont recall this being listed as an option. I'm probably just forgetting.

The PHS on my 69 Sprint is unreadable, but I think I have the PHS for my first Firebird, a 350 convertible. I'll look when I can.

Last point, if you'd like to upgrade you 69 Bird to a stereo radio it is nearly impossible to find an original unit. However, a 70-72 GTO or GP stereo radio is a quarter the price and easy to find. All you need is a set of the correct longer push buttons (repro'd) and the functioning right knob bezel (same as any radio with a rear speaker option). The A or G body stereo bolts right in with the exception of an AC car, in which case you can dremmel a tiny bit of the heat sync on the radio to clear an AC duct. The kick panel front speaker assemblies, the rear speaker housings (for convertibles) and the speaker harness are all repro'd but Ames doesn't carry some of them. You can get them through chevy and/or Camaro repro stores.
